The SpaceWelcome! You will be relaxing in a spacious and open light-filled 3-bedroom "classic ranch" house with beautiful hardwood floors and lush green surroundings. The home has been in my family for over 50 years, and retains many of its original features.
Some have chosen to use this large space as a serene escape from NYC, a quiet writer's retreat, a golfing home base, a group-brainstorming getaway, a central locale for touring colleges or beaches, a romantic hideaway, a home-away-from home for a holiday feast, an affordable lodging for a family visiting family... what will you do here?
The location is close to the beach and golf courses, 12 minutes from the Garden State Parkway, next door to Monmouth University, and still a quiet and peaceful haven. It's a clean, safe, year-round suburban Jersey Shore community and the beaches up and down the shore are quite sleepy (and free) in the off-season. Plenty of supermarkets, restaurants, mall, and funky little shore towns are all within a short drive.
There's a large, sunny dining room with a massive table and vintage chandelier. The living room has lots of comfy, cushy seating, and there's even a fireplace for chilly nights. The eat-in kitchen has a small breakfast table and there's a perfect spot to set up your laptop on the desk in the slate-floored sun room. For warmer days, there's an outdoor table and chairs.
There's plenty of room in the big backyard for a football game!
I also have two bikes (with locks) that you can borrow to explore the area. Quiet and flat neighborhood for miles!
There is one pillow-top king-sized bed and three twin beds (for a total of 3 bedrooms). In addition, another queen-sized bed is available in the den. The master bath features a fully tiled original stall shower and a separate tub. The house is minimally furnished, but you will find everything you need to kick back and feel comfortable. High speed WiFi gets a signal all over the house and there's a 40" flat screen HD TV with Netflix, HBO GO® and Streampix TV on demand, sports channels, lots of cable channels. Or tickle the ivories on my vintage 70s piano (which may not have been tuned since 1981...)!
The kitchen features a full-size fridge, gas range, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster oven, blender and dishwasher, as well as pots, pans, wine glasses, and all the basics. And if you're staying more than a weekend, you'll appreciate the washer/dryer.
I'll make sure you've got coffee, tea and even some oatmeal or granola bars.
If you are looking for a relaxed place to stay not too far from New York City, look no further. We are an hour's drive from the city, when traffic is cooperating (53mi/85k). You can also get to Long Branch via NJ Transit train (1.5 hours) and take a taxi or ride your bike to the house (but you'll probably want to rent a car to get around...)
There's plenty of good food, shopping and entertainment nearby... I grew up here and can give you lots of tips.
Update/ April 2016: The Long Branch boardwalk has now been completely restored, several years after Hurricane Sandy, and the beach is wider than ever. An even lovelier place to visit now!
