The SpacePlease note, we've lowered our rates for the winter season. Please ask us for our 2015/16 Winter Deal, stay three nights and get a fourth night complementary stay. Welcome to La Casa del Corazón (The House of the Heart.) This 2-bedroom house comfortably sleeps five with one queen size bed, two twin beds, and a comfortable day bed. Meticulously created and designed by its artist residents both inside and out, it is the perfect luxury vacation experience in a retreat like setting. Inside the house you will find every amenity for comfort with sweeping vistas of the surrounding land and gardens. The master bedroom inhabits the entire second story. And the master bathroom has an ample two-person whirlpool spa bath with grand picture windows that open to a commanding view of the entire property. The living room, dining room, and kitchen all comprise an open first floor layout, with the east wall made entirely of windows and multiple sliding glass doors allowing the room to be bathed in natural light. French doors in the living room open to a precious stone pathway which leads to a private vine covered patio with outdoor tables, chairs and cooking grill. The house is equipped with every modern appliance including a dishwasher, W/D, wifi, large screen TV, Ipod dock, wood stove, antique pine floors, A/C, and a fully equipped kitchen with everything a cook could ask for. The second bedroom, located on the first floor, feels like it is buried deep in the woods, with rich green foliage exposed from every window. This serene room will inspire all who sleep here to surrender and dream. There is both a front and back porch furnished with comfortable patio chairs and tables to enjoy your morning coffee as the sun tops the forest trees around 9:30; or if you are an early riser you can walk down to the sprawling fields of wild flowers and tall meadow grasses one block from the driveway and watch the sun come up a few hours earlier. The vacation rental is on our property "The Land of the 13 Moons," nestled in the woods between the base of the Catskill Mountains and Ashokan Reservoir. The 17 acres estate was named after the Native American understanding of a 13 moon calendar, which represents a sensibility in harmony with natural rhythms. The land has been developed for 10 years with an evolving dynamic vision. The Land of the 13 Moons commands two acres of wild flowers, and designed gardens containing medicinal plants, fruit trees, berry bushes, kitchen herbs and abundant edibles. Everything is grown with organic and permaculture principals. The compound is run with a loving focus on sustainability and honoring the Earth. We encourage our guests to recycle, compost and participate in the creation of a low impact footprint. The fire pit is available for your relaxation in the evenings. Wood is provided for you. Throughout all of the gardens are nooks and crannies designed for you to sit and rest for tranquility and reflection, inviting all who come to experience the rejuvenating power of Nature. Less than 100 yards from the house is a spring fed pond built for swimming. The water is clean and refreshing and we recommend many dips a day. By the ponds edge is a bluestone patio perfect for enjoying the sun or reading in the late afternoon after the sun has dipped behind the trees. '13 Moons' is surrounded by public land and you can venture off the property and walk for several miles in the woods before encountering any other houses or roads. There are three buildings on the property. The primary house is our vacation rental, “La Casa del Corazon.” In the large studio barn we call “La Casa de Los Pajaros” (The House of the Birds) are living spaces and working artist studios. Much further from the house you will see a round building near the pond we call “La Casa de La Miel” (The House of Honey) which is a personal retreat space. The land here is spacious and varied, with gardens, meadows, and forest. The layout of the property has been carefully and attentively designed to provide an abundance of private space to be explored and enjoyed on your own. At night you will be lulled to sleep by the songs of the pond frogs or the melodic calling back and forth of our various Owl residents; or possibly the gentle whisper of trees rustling with the breeze coming down from High Point Mountain, caressing all who come to bathe in the magical gifts of “ 13 Moons.” Guest AccessThe home is very private and the sprawling land and pond are fully yours to explore and enjoy. You have your own entrance in the front and back of the house. Interaction with GuestsThe owner lives in another building on the compound, and is available to assist in any way needed. There are two hardworking caretakers on the property, who are available for any gardening questions or sustainable living inquiries. The NeighborhoodWe are located in a rural area, tucked between the Ashokan Reservoir and the base of the Catskill Mountains, 20 min. to either Woodstock or Stone Ridge, and 10 minutes to the supermarket in Boiceville. We are close to the Peek-a-Moose Preserve which offers hiking trails and amazing swimming holes. Other hiking sites in the area are: Overlook Mountain, Wittenberg Mountain and Slide Mountain. All hiking maps are available in the living room library. Woodstock, Stone Ridge, and High Falls have quite a bit to explore in terms of restaurants and shopping. There are farmer’s market and flea markets open every weekend in Woodstock and High Falls. A 5 minute drive will land you at the opening of the 5 mile Reservoir walkway which takes you across pristine water with rolling mountain vistas. The SpaceYour private room is recently renovated and has its own door leading to our sprawling, sloped backyard and jaw-dropping mountain views. You will be provided with a queen-sized airbed and bedding. Note: The water tank is in the cabinet in this room, so it may occasionally woosh when water is in use. Guest AccessIndoors: Guests will have access to our kitchen, their own shelf in the fridge, the living room (with toasty, adorable wood stove), dishes, glassware, spices, etc. There is wi-fi and a bunch of instruments if you are looking to jam! The cabin also has a cozy bathroom with shower, toilet and hot running water. Outdoors: Our stunning yard will wow you with its breathtaking views of the mountains. Relax at the picnic table, make a fire in the pit, walk down our special stone hobbit trail to dip your toes in the refreshing stream. If you want to commune with the great outdoors all night long, you are also welcome to set up our tent in the backyard and fall asleep under the night sky. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available during your stay to help you discover the best the Catskills has to offer. As this is our special cabin getaway, we will likely cross paths. We are friendly, easy going urban professionals who are down to socialize or happy to leave you alone to the quiet bliss of the mountains. The NeighborhoodLocated on the border of 25k acres of state land in the Catskill Mountains. 10 minutes from Phoenecia 15 minutes from Woodstock Tons of hiking, fishing, arts, food, culture and crafts nearby! Supermarket, pharmacy, gas station, booze shop and organic bakery right in town. Getting AroundYou will need a car to get around this area. Parking is available on premises. Other Things to NoteOur magical cabin is home to two honeybee hives. If you have a bee allergy or a fear of bees, this may not be the AirBB for you. The honeybees are kept on the other side of the property, far from the house and are not interested in hanging out with humans. Still, we want you to be comfortable and happy and enjoy your wilderness experience and understand that may be somewhere else where bees do not live. (However, if the idea of hanging with honeybees excites you, a hive tour with honey tasting is available, weather permitting, for an extra $50.) In addition to the bees, our beautiful mountain forest is filled with wildlife. This is what we love most about the Catskills -- the deer crossing the road, the frogs in the lawn, the bunnies, groundhogs, and occasional bear seen deep in the woods. Nighttime skies have also occasionally been sung to by the coyotes. Sometimes, nature likes to snuggle up and get close with us, especially in the autumn when the temperatures cool down and our toasty home seems incredibly inviting. If the thought of crossing paths with the occasional spider or mouse indoors makes you uncomfortable, we totally understand and suggest you might prefer a listing elsewhere. Our escape is definitely rustic. It's a hunting cabin built in the 1950s that has been added on to over the decades and it feels like one. The floors may creak, the wind may whistle through the occasional crack, but it is stylish, homey and at the center of beautiful nature that would our pleasure to share with you.

Other Things to NoteAlways bring warm clothes. We are definitely in the mountains, the weather can and does change rapidly regardless of the time of year. Enjoy and photograph the local wildlife but please do not feed them. If the local bear is out back its better to stay in till he moves it along they generally don't hang around for long, he is genuinely unimpressed by pot banging and "hey bears" . Please do not leave food or trash outdoors or in your car this is the bears favorite thing.

NOTE: IF THIS HOME IS UNAVAILABLE, PLEASE CHECK AVAILABILITIES FOR OUR OTHER WITTEN POND HOMES: WITTEN BARN #367478 AND WITTEN GATEHOUSE # 3777731 (GATEHOUSE IS BOOKED TO END OF 2015.) WE WELCOME PETS: Yes, we do welcome pets, but charge a fee of $65. There is additional housekeeping time required after each 'pet stay.' We hope you understand. Please be sure to check off that you have a pet under FEES AND TAXES when developing your quote so that we can facilitate a faster booking for you! OUR RATES: Our standard nightly rate (minimum 3 nights) is $250. Please contact us directly for weekly and monthly rates. ABOUT WITTEN POND 'Witten Pond' is comprised of three homes on a 15-acre owner-estate, which is in the midst of the 'forever wild' Catskill State Forest Preserve in the NYC Ashokan Reservoir area and on the protected Wittenberg Stream. Our homes are best suited for one couple, or a couple with a small child and/or pet. All three of our homes have 1-bedroom and 1-bath. We do not suggest that multiple couples inquire for availability for just one home. We recommend if there is more than one couple wishing to vacation together that you consider both Lily-of-the-Valley and Witten Barn (#367478). A special package price will be offered. The original home, circa 1910 recently restored 'Lily of the Valley,' is furnished in art and antiques. The second is a more contemporary historic home, 'Witten Gatehouse', with a spa bathroom. The third home, 'Witten Barn,' is an architectural integration of old and new including a major European-style kitchen, bathroom, and wood-fired radiant fireplace. 'Witten Pond' homes provide perfect Private Realms for a couple’s getaway. THE WITTENBERG STREAM: A SMALL BIT OF WITTEN POND HISTORY A “must” when visiting Witten Pond is to take a short walk up Moonhaw Road to the bridge and dead end. Beginning at Witten Pond, Moonhaw Road is a single dirt lane unchanged in 100 years! Along the way, you walk in parallel with the Wittenberg Stream, which has stayed as pristine as in the days of the Hudson River School painters and naturalist John Burroughs. Wittenberg Stream's rushing waters, which you hear from all the homes at Witten Pond, flows down from Wittenberg Mountain en route to New York City’s Ashokan Reservoir. For those who fish and have a New York State License, the Wittenberg Stream has native brook trout. You can see Wittenberg Mountain's peak from Witten Pond, given it is the third highest vertical climb in the Catskills and a part of the Slide Mountain Wilderness Range. Wittenberg Stream ABOUT LILY-OF-THE-VALLEY “LILY-OF-THE-VALLEY' is a restored circa 1900 chestnut post and beam cottage- style home. A high loft-style bedroom/library occupies the entire 2nd floor, which looks out on Witten Pond, Wittenberg Stream and high Catskill peaks. 1300 sq. ft. on two floors with porches on 3 sides. Light abounds in the master bedroom. The 1st floor has eclectic charm and warmth ... the feeling of a home at once informal yet lavished with care and comfort. Owner’s attention to detail is everywhere: the house is furnished with antiques and Hudson Valley art. The hand crafted cherry-wood banister going upstairs is something to behold. The wood flooring was cut from trees on the property as a wedding gift to the Owner from a neighbor. An antique chestnut dining table overlooks Witten Pond through French doors leading to the porch allowing a glow of light to filter in all day long. The 1st floor houses the master bath with authentic clawfoot tub and hand-held European shower. There is a large bay window next to the tub that overlooks Witten Pond and a secret garden. There are skylights as well, so while you're soaking in the deep clawfoot tub, you can also light candles and stargaze. The open living room/kitchen has a wood burning stream-stone fireplace and country kitchen with bluestone counters. See Amenities for details, although almost everything you would want is provided. All the appliances are new. The porch is covered on three sides, allowing for more relaxation and stargazing at night since there is no ambient light! The stars are bright and huge. The Sitting area in the back of the house has a wood burning Tuscan wood grill, teak sitting benches, gardens, and picnic table overlooking Witten Pond. Supervised, it is a great area for a young child to play. Swimming (at guest risk) and fishing (catch-and-release) are available in Witten Pond. The Wittenberg Stream, a classic trout stream, is just across the road parallel to our property. Lily amenities include Wifi internet, DVD/TV, CD/radio, massage table, and excellent cell service. Situated at the end of a private road this beautiful property is like heaven with beautiful streams running around the house. If you feel the need to get away from it all, this place is for you. Located on the top of a hill, this rental is tucked privately away with surrounding forest preserve. You feel as though you are standing right at the top of a mountain, but in reality you are at the foot of South Mountain. Facing the front you have a beautiful view of Hanover mountain, and at the back there is 300 acres of forest preserved by "Catskill State Forest Preserve" in the NYC Ashokan Reservoir area. There is an attached log cabin built in the early 1900's that is not part of the rental as of now as we are fixing it up. Nobody will be staying in this log cabin during your stay or anywhere on the property near you. All the pictures are of the new addition that contain 1 bedroom with king size bed and two bathrooms (one off master bedroom). The master bedroom is located upstairs. We have a crib and changing area if you have a baby. The rental is designed for two people's romantic weekend, but if you have one child they can sleep on the couch though it does not open up. There is a wood stove to cozy up to in the winter, but there is also central heating throughout the house. The beautiful Bushkill creek surrounds the area, and the stunning Peekamoose Mountain Blue Hole is a 15 minute gorgeous scenic drive where you can swim and cool off. There is also a pool in the town of Olive's Lester S. Davis Park which is 5 minutes drive, and also includes a basketball court, pavilion, Baseball Field, children’s playground and horseshoe pits. There is world class fly-fishing at Esopus Creek, and so many beautiful hiking trails nearby. The quaint town of Woodstock is a 25 minute away, Phoenicia is 15 minutes away, and High Falls and Stone Ridge is 25 minutes away. Bellayre and Hunter are two ski areas just 30 minutes up Route 28 through some of the most stunning landscapes and mountains. You are 10 minutes to groceries, a farm stand, bakery, liquor store and cafes serving breakfast & lunch. Great restaurants are just 5-20 minutes away! Emerson Spa is 15 minutes away where you can lounge in their outdoor hot tub or get some relaxing treatments! We give you the contact to a Masseuse that can come right to the house! Only 2 hours drive to New York City!!! *PLEASE NOTE: If you book through this website then there will be a website fee because they offer guest 24/hr phone help.
