If you like to golf, look no further. This home is beautifully situated in a country club setting, right in the heart of Winnapaug Golf course. The neighborhood of Winnapaug Hills is ON the golf course, which is lovely, well maintained a public course. The house is a short walk to the links - just one street away. Views of woods from back of house. Golf Clubhouse is on Shore road - a short walk or golf cart ride. The house is walkable to Shore Road and golf clubhouse.
You don't have to be a golfer to enjoy this neighborhood which has the benefit of being just miles from the beaches! Its a short distance to Weekapaug, Watch Hill, and Westerly beaches about 4 miles away. If you're a beach person, the house comes with a private parking spot in Watch Hill, which is a short 5-7 minute drive (depending on traffic), and home of the 5-Star Ocean House Relaise & Chateau, situated on East Beach.
This is 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath (2 stories) home - it's renovated/updated and fresh. Furnishings are mostly Pottery Barn, or that same style. Painted in neutral colors: beiges and light gray. Cathedral ceilings and open floor plan. Spacious, open style living room with lots of windows. Gets lots of light!
All bedrooms are on the top floor. There is a staircase.
New composite deck and peastone patio was just installed this summer. (Kitchen Aid gas grill is on deck- not pictured.)
New stainless steel kitchen appliances.
Master bedroom has a hot tub!
Other amenities include 1 car garage, large basement, second living room area, laundry room (with double utility sink and LG front load washer/dryer). Master bedroom has its own bathroom with walk-in closet and jacuzzi, central air, vacuum, and heat.
Second floor bedroom white bedroom (with toile curtains/pillows) is next to bathroom.
I keep this house as neat as a whistle. Easy living. Even if you're not a golfer or beach goer, you can't help but feel relaxed in this neighborhood.
BEACHES- WATCH HILL BEACH: The house comes with a private parking space in Watch HIll, so you can walk a block to the public beach by the Watch Hill Carousel. Parking is impossible in Watch Hill, so this is rare. You won't be driving around for hours looking for a parking space - only to be able to park 2 hours before getting a ticket.
Watch Hill Beach is a family beach in the village of Watch Hill with low surf, bathhouses for changing, cold water outdoor showers, a flying horse carousel for kids and plenty of family restuarants. A short walk up Lathrop Avenue takes you to East Beach, which has higher surf and a strong undertow. Great for surfers. Same goes for Misquamicut beach, which is closer to the house. I recommend Watch Hill Beach for smaller crowds, family atmosphere.
Walkers: This is a very walkable neighborhood. Power walking is the second most popular activity here- second to golf. Walk to the Winnapaug Golf Course/Restaurant or all the way to the Weekapaug Inn (I walk to Weekapaug beach all the time-it's so nice!)
Tennis players: Pond View Racquet club is a 2 minute drive- literally, you could walk here if you wanted to!
Stop N’ Shop shopping center is 3 minute drive. Very close to house.
Restaurants: Watch Hill: Olympia Tea Room, Ocean House. Weekpaug: Weekapaug Inn. Avondale: Cooked Goose (lunch/breakfast) Westerly: Sea Goose Grill. Stonington: Water St. Cafe, The Dog Watch Cafe. Mystic: Oyster Club, S&P Oyster House, Bravo Bravo.
Boaters: If you want to experience the boro of Stonington, CT by water, the New England Science & Sailing Foundation offers rentals of boats, kayaks, SUP, and various other activities. There's no better way to see the boro than by water! Located on Water St. in the heart of the Stonington boro. Jet Ski Rentals: In Misquamicut, RI at the Purple Ape.
Beachgoers: There are 3 public beaches nearby. The closest are in Watch HIll, where you will have a private parking space. This is important because parking is difficult here- with just 2 hour parking which is enforced and they ticket frequently. Hard if you're going to the beach. You can park worry free in a space just a short walk to the beach. The beach easiest to use is Watch Hill Beach by the merry go round. They have a lifeguard, bathhouses, cold showers, etc. It's in Watch Hill village. East Beach is where the famous singer lives- high surf- no lifeguard, undertow. It's gorgeus, but higher surf, just FYI. Blue Shutters Beach is on Charlestown, a short drive.
Surfers: Rent a paddle board surboard or kayak from Paddle Surf RI! You can surf in nearby Misquamicut or Weekapaug. They give lessons which are surprisingly easier than it seems. I got up first try! The staff here is incredibly attentive.
Yoga: If you're addicted to yoga, there are 2 places I would recommend: Heart of Avondale and High Street Yoga. Heart of Avondale is a 4 minute drive from the house, across the street from The Cooked Goose lunch place. The studio here is gorgeous and overlooks the water! It's the nicest view I've ever seen from a yoga studio. They also offer pilates. High Street Yoga is in historic downtown Westerly and the instructors here are trained, educated, and serious about yoga. It's a great studo whether trying for the first time or you have a daily practice.
Dooney Aviation - Airport- 2 minutes from house. Rent a plane to Block Island, Nantucket or Matha's Vineyward! OR, rent a plane!
Other Notable Nearby Places:
Ocean House Relaise & Chateau: Perched high on the bluffs of Watch Hill, 7 minutes from the house, the Ocean House is an iconic New England seaside resort, and the first and only Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond Hotel in the state of RI. You don't have to be a guest to enjoy some activities there.
Newport, RI: 30-40 minute drive depending on traffic. Tour the mansions, illustrators museums, shop on the wharf or just go for lunch! It's a quick drive from the house.
Stonington Boro: This historic fishing village is perfect for boaters, shoppers, anyone looking for a causal place to spend an afternoon. You can rent a kayak, boat, SUP board and other activities (surfing) at the New England Science and Sailing Foundation (NESS) Eat at The Dog Watch Cafe or Water Street Cafe.
Mystic Seaport Museum & Restuarant (CT): Home to the Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whaling ship in the world, a maritime art collection. 15 minute drive from the house.
