The SpaceEnjoy uninterrupted peace and quiet on the Maine coast in this sweet, rustic cabin perfect for artists, writers, or anyone else wanting to unplug and unwind for a few days or weeks. This charming cabin, built in 1982, is situated only 50 feet from the water's edge, and, with only one house visible through the woods, it is difficult to find a more private location than this. The cabin is of rustic design, with one private bedroom and single common area that includes a kitchenette, eat-in table, couch, and TV (no cable though). Above the common area is a loft with a double bed mattress, accessible by a wooden ladder. Off the common area is an enclosed composting toilet. There is no shower so all washing up must be done in the bath tub. There is no internet or telephone connection. The small wood stove is no longer functional, but three portable electric heaters are kept permanently in the cabin for any chilly Maine nights. Such simple living is certainly not for everyone, but can be a tremendous treat for those interested in enjoying this beautiful natural setting. The cabin looks over a salt river (Back River) which is part of the ocean but looks more like a river/lake due to the protection of Barter's Island across the water. The cove that the cabin sits on is tidal, which means that half the time you are looking at the ocean and half the time it is a natural mud flat. So the view changes every 6 hours! To enjoy the water to its fullest when the tide is up, a double kayak may be rented from the property owners at a very reasonable rate. The cabin is located 5 minutes drive from lovely Boothbay Harbor, a stunning destination for travelers of all kinds. Enjoy fine local seafood, kayaking, whale watching, sunset sailing trips, and the charming downtown with its quaint shops. There are also many beautiful walking trails through the Boothbay Region Land Trust, along with one of the world's finest botanical gardens at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located only 2 miles from the cabin. The owners of the cabin live on the adjacent property so any questions or concerns can be immediately addressed.

Serendipity is your perfect Maine getaway – a cottage by the water, on an island, yet reachable by car. Located on Montsweag Bay, it is surrounded by the Sheepscot River to the East and both Back River and the Sasanoa Rivers to the West, all of which are tidal salt water. Westport Island is a quiet and picture perfect small Maine community of about 800 year round residents. It was originally known as Jeremy Squam and noted to have flourished in the early 1800`s as a fishing and farming community; one of the most prosperous in Maine. Today it is home to a broad cross-section of residents from families who have lived there for generations to new residents and retirees who are proud to call Westport Island home. The owners of this three bedroom, 2 bath cottage have thought of everything to make your vacation memorable. From comfortable seating in the living room and on the deck to a "mosquito-proof" screened gazebo at the water’s edge where you can enjoy the views, a glass of wine, or a meal without the addition of Maine`s "unofficial State bird." There is a dock and float from which you can swim, fish or launch either the kayak and canoe that are there for your enjoyment, a means to explore this wonderful area. Don`t be surprised to find eagles flying overhead or a Great Blue Heron fishing there at low tide. The Squire Tarbox Inn is a restaurant of local renown that serves dinner to the public and is just a short distance away. In the town of Wiscasset one can stop by for one of Red`s Eats famous lobster rolls, stop by Sarah's for soup and sandwich, or do some shopping or antiquing. Boothbay Harbor is only a short drive to the East and LL Bean in Freeport is to the West. Go to the Maine State Musical Theater for a summer show or visit the state Capitol and buildings in Augusta (North of Wiscasset). There is a lot to see and do and we have been told by our guests that they find themselves saying "We have to come back next year, there was not enough time to do everything we wanted." Interaction with GuestsI interact to clarify parameters of stay and help guests feel at home. I enjoy engaging in exchanging stories and chit chat but see the need for giving guests space if that is what is needed. Happy to coexist as guest deems appropriate. The NeighborhoodOur home is on a beautiful island nestled between two rivers and hugging the mainland of southern Lincoln County just minutes from the hullaballo of midcoast Maine activity. The property is very woodsy, often hear owls, may see a deer...and a short walk to the river with tidal waters meet it. Getting AroundConcord Coachlines comes to Wiscasset, the next town, twice a day. It originates in NYC and Boston or Portland. There is a local taxi and maybe Uber during the busiest months. Host happy to drop you off in town if that is handy for a day of lobster eating, museum hopping or river walking. We are nicely located between Bath/Brunswick and Camden/Rockland. Just 21 miles west to Augusta area and another hour over to Western mountains. Other Things to NoteThere may be other guests staying in log home or cabin on property. You may want to join in frequent evening campfire or initiate one in our big fire pit. There are trails next door to walk or ride by mountain bike. Host may entice you into a 10 mile road ride loop down island. Lovely porch with couches and chairs to watch feeding birds and nature or just lounge and read or reflect.
