The SpaceWe, (John and Philippa) welcome each new hosting experience at Over The Rainbow, as a chance to welcome people to the Waikato and our piece of paradise. Our wish is for all heartfelt people to stay with us and enjoy the magic of our energy-efficient, wheelchair friendly home. Our aim is to create an ideal place to retreat to no matter what your circumstances are and re-charge your batteries before setting off on your next adventure. TRAVELLERS: ‘Are you on your way somewhere en-route?’ ‘Do you wish to be central to a wide range of tourist attractions?’ ‘Are you attending a celebration, conference or would like to grab your breath, to catch up with family and friends?’ We offer fabulous accommodation, a wonderful welcome plus free, unlimited WiFi and can help you plan where your travels will take you next. RETREATS: Did you know that we also offer retreat packages which are holistically orientated and have a holistic feel. One one basis or couples and you get great food, nurturing, peace and space to work through your issues. You can check out my website called lady rainbow heart for more information under RETREATS this will give you an idea of the extensive services offered. ALL accommodation bookings are still made through AirBNB. STUDENTS Of PHILLIPA'S COURSES: We offer a 10% discount off you accommodation once your course is confirmed. If you wish to share a room with another student and happy to share the bathroom facilities, then the accommodation per night is RECUPERATION: Package if you have been unwell and need the reassurance of staying where you can be kept a closer eye on, although not practicing now Philippa has the knowledge of being an ex nurse/midwife for that extra tlc. GOOD EATING: Cereal, toast and tea/coffee is included, any additional meals by arrangement and at extra cost. The room has 2 single beds. We also have a trundler bed which means you could have 3 people in the room. The garden is beautiful and has flat areas to sit, walk, and play in with the Waipa river flowing at the back of the property. Since we have an Eco home there are a few more rules – the water system does not tolerate chemicals, so we supply eco products, shampoo, conditioner and soap and ask that everyone refrain from using phosphates and SLS ingredients. We are on tank water so shower times have to be kept shorter (Dec- Mar). Any questions please ask as we would like to make your stay a pleasant and happy one. Being rural the property is not fenced, so you must maintain safety of yourself and any children at all times especially on our steep drop off to the fast-flowing river are considerations. Please ask if you have any questions, Thank you Pip and John your hosts Guest AccessYou have your own front door and key, your room, use of your own guest lounge area and communal dining table, the patio and garden. Interaction with GuestsWe love interacting with our guests and assisting you with local attractions and getting the most from their stay. We, John and I, can choose to relax in their separate 'apartment' at the west end of the home (to give you privacy you have your own guest lounge area). Please note that during the day we utilise the main area and we cook in the main kitchen. We enjoy mingling with our guests and are flexible and will fit in with your being around to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Please consider the following: Our animals are part of our family - the two cats make our house a home – so if you leave your bedroom door open they will assume you are allowing them to sleep on your bed. The NeighborhoodCafes and restaurants are on your doorstep with the Whatawhata village shops, the local pub and takeaways. Dinsdale has an amazing array of little shops and take outs too and then into the main street of Hamilton – Which boasts over 70 restaurants in Hamilton there is something to suit everyone. Shops and entertaining areas available for everyone, and NZ’s largest shopping mall at The Base. Surf and relax at the local beach is found at Raglan, only 25 minutes from us over the hills and it’s a left-hand break beach (one of the worlds few) and even has black sand, it’s a super cool place to chill out with the locals. The Bridal Veil Water Falls are spectacular and walk at the Arboretum with lovely walks just 5 minutes up the road. Getting AroundWe are 15 minutes drive from Hamilton City center and Raglan Surf beach is 25 minutes drive. A vehicle is highly recommended for this rural location. We understand this is not always possible, so for your convenience we are happy to collect takeaways foods for a small fee. There is a 15 walk to the local bus stop – which offers 3 busses a day, each way between Raglan and Hamilton. The tiny Whatawhata community offers you two cafes and a petrol station for basic food stuffs, which is a 25 minute walk. Hamilton is spread out, so our local shopping centre of Dinsdale, west Hamilton is 12 minute drive. Other Things to NoteOur location offers you the convenience of being local to Hamilton’s main events. Everything is accessible with a vehicle. Hamilton is looked on as a small city by world standards but we offer culture, sport and events relevant to the environment we live in. Our Hamilton Gardens attract people to its wonderful arts festival, guests also seek accommodation for local rugby games and cricket matches. Hamilton takes pride in the Field Days which is a huge agricultural event that attracts international guests. Everything is accessible with a vehicle.

The SpaceEnter as strangers - Leave as friends. We welcome you to our home, Rua Resort, which we hope you see as your home while you are here. Rua - Maori for two - or harmony, was the band name of our two eldest children who had a successful TV and recording career in Japan. You will be impressed if you take a peek at them on youtube under the listing popsrua - warning: proud parent! (They were known as the carpenters of the East) We are settled back in NZ now, and are ready and willing to take care of your needs. However, if you get sick of us, the 560m2 house affords you all the privacy you would like. Our quarters are on the second floor. The third floor is for our distinguished guests. We promise peaceful sleep on the best quality beds, spacious bedrooms with luxurious furnishings, and jaw-droppingly large bathrooms. The two double and the triple rooms are our airbnb discounted rooms. However for a small upgrade fee you may opt for the very private Honeymoon Suite, or the newly appointed River suite. Even with the up-grade, these two larger suites are still half price from the commercial rate. You can enjoy 360 degree views across rolling green hills, especially Mt Pirongia to the front. Take a wander over the 5 acres, where you will meet Chocolate and Licorice, the gentle alpacas, Bella and Joelle the Timor ponies and Simon and Danny Boy the Shetlands. We will prepare some sliced carrots or apples and they will all love you - albeit cupboard love! Tango, the outside Bengal cat will follow you as you go, hoping for a morsel, or a scratch behind the ears. You will also feel like the pied piper, once the free range hens and bantams spot you. Too numerous to name here, they will follow you in the hopes of you giving them something to eat other than worms and bugs. You can collect the eggs, if they are co-operating during your visit, and enjoy an organic healthy breakfast, which we rather pride ourselves in. Sorry dog-lovers, no resident dogs, as we promise a quiet sleep. No roosters either. All our feathered and furry friends live outside, so there is no concern for guests with allergies. This heavenly country environment is just 10 minutes drive from the CBD. Company groups enjoy the spacious living area to relax in after corporate events, convention attendance, etc. We can see the LDS Temple to the left, through the trees. So this is a nice option for Temple Visitors. Talk to us about family and group discounts. There is no charge for children under two years of age. We can accommodate larger numbers for family reunions and youth groups, for example. Wedding parties love to stay the night before. Brides and their families or Brides and their bridesmaids appreciate the big rooms, the ample wardrobes and the many large mirrors to get dressed by. Then they like to use the property for wedding photos. The staircases and balconies and the outdoor views are superb backdrops. We have 6 bedrooms, sleeping from 2 to 4 each. We also have REAL Japanese futons which are very comfortable as extra beds. There is a colorful media room and a vast collection of DVD's. There are TVs and DVD players in each bedroom. You are welcome to relax in the library room and access the computer. There is wifi throughout the house. Having run a school in Japan for two decades, we are fluent in Japanese, and have brought back lots of fun things, such as a great collection of board games and heaps of unique toys to entertain little people. The kitchen is a caterers dream, so enjoy it. We have a trampoline outside and a BBQ for your use. Having guided tours here for years, we have put together some great plans for day trips, using Rua Resort as your base. Secret, free hot mineral pools in Rotorua, the best sushi in the Waikato, Beach walks in Raglan, Markets in Cambridge, Antique stores in Paeroa - these are a few highlights. We can arrange highly discounted air balloon rides, farm visits, horse treks, whatever your fancy, we will be your concierge. 2 minute's drive away is Lizzie's Store, a friendly little dairy. Lizzie offers great home-cooked meals at $5 and $10 portions each evening, Monday to Saturday. Or motor back down to Dinsdale for all your shopping needs. The large Honeymoon Suite, Rua Suite, has it's own fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. Other rooms share the massive kitchen downstairs for self-catering. There will be a nice selection of Herb teas, regular tea and coffee available at all times. For room pictures check out (URL HIDDEN) Guest AccessGuests have access to all spaces beside the owner's sleeping quarters. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to offer suggestions and recommendations for tourist spots and eating places. The NeighborhoodThe village you drive through to get to our street is centered around the former Highschool (currently being demolished and the whole village is looking very spiffy with new housing and roadworks), and the LDS Temple. At the base of the Temple is a Visitor's Centre which is well worth a visit if you have 30 minutes to spare. The Temple grounds are all lit up in December for Christmas and it becomes a very popular attraction. There are often free concerts in the evening as the lights are turned on.

The view is incredible and it is very serene. It was the perfect distance to town and amenities but far enough removed that it was like a little getaway. The SpaceWe live on a 20+ acre block, with lots of trees and steep hilly bits. Great place to walk if you have good shoes and tough trousers. As well as a stream and ponds, there are glow-worms and lots of birds. Wild pigs and goats come through our land too, but chances of seeing them are pretty small. Its a gorgeous place to relax. Guest AccessFor your own use, you'll have a front door, bedroom, bathroom and toilet .. by closing a couple of doors (good idea, as it'll keep the dog out) your area can be separate from the rest of the house. There is also another smaller bedroom available in that space (by arrangement). We use the lounge and kitchen, and you're welcome to use them too. Interaction with GuestsIts big house so there's room for privacy, but we are usually in the lounge in the evenings and you're welcome to be there too .. Getting AroundAlthough there is a (fairly infrequent) bus that goes past the end of our road, its really best to have your own transport. We have plenty of parking space. Other Things to NoteIf you want to eat a simple supper with us, give us some advance notice so we can provide something - at a reasonable cost. We tend towards a vegetarian diet.
