The SpaceWe welcome you to Te Maru Cottage. Ideally placed to explore the Coromandel Peninsula, away from the bustle of the tourist scene, we are 1.2km up a private driveway, where you can enjoy the privacy of our cottage fully equipped to be self-contained. It sleeps 3 people, 1 queen and 1 single bed with an extra folding bed suitable for a small child and has a separate bathroom and a full kitchen and open space living area. Stay two nights.. stay up to three weeks, you will enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our 5ha garden and avocado orchard backed by native bush. Ten minutes away you can dig your own sand spa at Hot Water Beach, walk the Cathedral Cove Track, & eat at great local restaurants. Sue and Derek, your hosts, are creating an environment where native forest and birdlife flourish. Situated in a kiwi protection area, our group works to ensure the long-term survival of Whenuakite’s kiwi population. More than 30 varieties of birds visit this area. We can help you with bush-walks, bird-watching, surf-casting or shellfish-gathering. We are close to Whitianga where you can mingle with the crowds at one of the many festivals held there, or closer still attend some of the seasonal popular gigs at the Coroglen Tavern, then retreat to the quiet of Te Maru. Visit nearby resident artists studios enjoy fine local cuisine, avail yourself of one of many sea-going and coastal boating/kayaking/sailing adventures offered, dive/snorkel the Marine Reserve, enjoy the many beautiful bush and coastal walks and tramps - some taking in historic Maori Pa sites. We welcome your enquiry! Guest AccessOur one and only cottage is separate from our home and your privacy will be respected. Parking is available close to cottage door. You have access to our laundry & washing machine. Use your laptop through our wifi we invite you to explore and enjoy our garden, orchard and wild areas. You will be invited to share our in-season produce from garden and orchard when it is plentiful. At the bottom of our driveway is a boutique brewery with an attached cafe open several days a week. Interaction with GuestsWe live on-site and enjoy meeting our guests and connecting with them on a personal level. We find many guests wish to talk about our gardens, bush and wild-life. We have had bird watchers stay and enjoy the variety of bird life here. The NeighborhoodTe Maru cottage is ideally placed to explore the Coromandel Peninsula. Sleeping 3 people it is fully equipped to be self contained. 10 minutes away you can dig your own spa in the sand at hot Water Beach, walk the Cathedral Cove track and eat at great restaurants. We live in a beautiful area show-casing many beaches and native bush with walking tracks connecting them. Breathtaking scenery of places like the Cathedral Cove Walk and Hot Water Beach are only 10 minutes away for you to enjoy and there are many more. Cafes and restaurants are handy when you finish your sight-seeing and a variety of entertainment is available throughout the tourist season. Read on to learn more! Getting AroundIdeally you will need your own vehicle to move around. However there is a Peninsula local daily bus service which picks/up-lets/down at the bottom of our driveway. we are 2 hours away from Auckland International Airport. There is some bus service connection from Auckland to Thames. Yoy will need to enquire.

The SpaceThe studio is fully insulated and free of electro-magnetic disturbance. Candlelight and reading lights are being provided as well as a gas-cooker and chilly bin in the covered outdoor kitchen (Ice packs provided, also many utensils, pots, pans, sugar, salt, tea and olive oil). Apart from outside facilities, like the solar outdoor shower and a compost toilet, you have access to your own bathroom and toilet inside our home (a few metres away). Parking area close by. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy sharing our organic breakfast as a contact point in the morning at a mutually agreed time. You may also have breakfast on your own, if you prefer. When at home, we like to be supportive and helpful while respecting each others' privacy. You are welcome to make use of our additional professional services. The NeighborhoodA world of its own, yet close to Coromandel's east-coast major natural attractions: Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove, Hahei, Cooks Beach, Tairua and Whitianga. Or simply refresh yourself in the crystal clear, cool water of our stream. Getting AroundIt is easier for guests to have their own transport. However, public bus services are available from Naked Bus and Intercity. Closest stop is Tairua. We can pick you up and take you back to Tairua by arrangement, at an additional fee. Our coastal sea and shore provide great opportunities for fishing, swimming and walking and there are many tourist providers who can enhance your exploration of this area. There are many bush walks and tramping trails throughout the peninsula which is comprised of a central forest covered range with bush running down to the sea in many areas. The peninsula was formed by volcanic action and the geology of the area is fascinating, especially where rock formations showing old flows of lava and blow holes and caves are visible along the coastline. we do not accept 1 night stays. We live in a peaceful country area with the sea just 10 mins away. You will need your own vehicle for transport. The land supports a mixture of farming and orcharding with a mix of forestry planting and preserved native bush.             This Cottage is a great spot for a couples or family getaway. It's the closet rental property at Hot Water Beach to the Hot Pools and beach, with outstanding views from the deck where you can see the whole length of Hot Water Beach. It has a large fenced lawn which would be perfect for some summer cricket. Hot Water Beach has been rated one of the top ten beaches in the world, and it is easy to understand why. Soft, white sand; cafes; art gallery and, of course, the famous hot pools you dig for yourself. For a couple of hours either side of low tide simply dig your toes in the sand until you find a hot spot where the naturally heated mineral water is flowing. Dig yourself a pool and relax in the beautiful surrounds while the cool seawater tops up your pool and prevents it from getting too hot. Any time of the year is great to visit Hot Water Beach. In the summer the spectacular Pohutukawa blossom is in full bloom. In winter the smells and sounds of the native bush and wildlife add to your experience. When the tide is low the pools are accessible. Kayaking, guided bush walks, glow worm trail (at night), horse trekking and numerous other activities are also available in the area. Currently available all through summer (previously tenanted) This is a large, basic house which can comfortably accommodate two to three families at once, or a large group of friends. There is a covered deck with BBQ for those beautiful summer evenings. The house is situated in Whenuakite which is 10 minutes drive to Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach, and Hahei. 20 minutes out of Whitianga.                   This true kiwi bach, looks straight down the amazing Hot Water Beach. Hot Water Beach has been rated one of the top ten beaches in the world, and it is easy to understand why. Soft, white sand; cafes; art gallery and, of course, the famous hot pools you dig for yourself. For a couple of hours either side of low tide simply dig your toes in the sand until you find a hot spot where the naturally heated mineral water is flowing. Dig yourself a pool and relax in the beautiful surrounds while the cool seawater tops up your pool and prevents it from getting too hot. Any time of the year is great to visit Hot Water Beach. In the summer the spectacular Pohutukawa blossom is in full bloom. In winter the smells and sounds of the native bush and wildlife add to your experience. When the tide is low the pools are accessible. Kayaking, guided bush walks, glow worm trail (at night), horse trekking and numerous other activities are also available in the area. You are moments from the beach, which is only 50 metres walk away. Hot Water Beach has been named as one of the top ten beaches in the world, and makes a perfect holiday spot. It is located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, between Tairua and Hahei Beach, around 2 hours drive from Auckland or Hamilton. Hot Water Beach is unique as hot springs flow to the surface of the beach at low tide, meaning you can relax in your own thermal hot pool which you literally dig out of the sand. We provide a free set of shovels and spades to dig your pool. Hot Water Beach is great for fishing, surfing, beach and bush walks, kayaking, bird-watching. Plus the lagoons at either end of the beach are ideal for kids to swim and fish in. Nearby are Hahei Beach and the picture-perfect Cathedral Cove both are only a 10-15 minute drive away, with Cooks Beach, Flaxmill Bay and Ferry Landing only 15-20 minutes away (where you can enjoy a short ferry ride across to Whitianga and Mercury Bay). Taumata is one of very few homes at Hot Water Beach, and is available to rent on a long or short term basis to careful and responsible families and mature groups. Retreat to our agriturismo style haven set amongst 3 ha of bush and organic gardens. (Sometimes we have some extra vegetables to share). Relax away from the summer crowds, when you choose. Our gentle dog Bear, and friendly cat Indy, will welcome and entertain you, if you like. Walk to Hot Water Beach (about 1 km). Hahei Beach, Cathedral Cove and Purangi golf course are close by. Enjoy the beach, surf or try your luck at fishing from the beach. Hot waves cafe is great for breakfast every day to dinner on Friday for 'Open Mike'. Hotties cafe looking over the beach is great for a coffee and food. A Visit to the popular Moko art space will inspire. Fishnchips from Tony and Kirsty at the camp are very popular. Use our retreat as a base to explore and enjoy the wonderful Attractions of the wider Coromandel on day trips (make sure you have plenty of time, there is so much to enjoy).
