Set 1.2km back from the road, with safe parking, our self-contained separate cottage sleeps 3 in one room & has ensuite, kitchen, dining/lounge. Drive up our private road, into our extensive gardens, wet lands & avocado orchard, and meet us in the natural beauty of our home, crafted in an array of New Zealand timbers. Then, as our only guests, settle into our comfortable self-contained and separate one room cottage with it's own kitchen and en-suite, sleeping 3: (1 queen and 1 single bed). In the tranquil private setting of 5 hectares of garden, orchard and wetland, with a background of luxuriant bush, you will hear the early morning call of birdsong and you can breakfast in the garden - enjoying 'in-season' fruit and vegetables.
Bird watchers, we have 'on property' bird watching, and are involved in kiwi habitat conservation in surrounding bush area. You can see and hear the some of the 35 varieties of bush, wetland and garden birds seasonally visiting our habitat. Extend your visit to the internationally known Miranda Coast migratory bird sanctuary. Gardeners, enjoy our spacious landscaped gardens and for those seeking peace and quiet, use our place as a retreat.
Close by are award winning Colenso Cafe, (5mins), Hot Water Beach sand spas- dig your own: Cathedral Cove Walk; Hot Water Brewing Co and Cafe at bottom of our driveway; Hahei restaurants, fishing, kayaking, horse riding, 9 hole golf course, and outdoor summer concerts.
Our Mercury Bay area is home to many artists drawn here by its beauty and relaxed lifestyle. Art galleries, studios and artist's homes are open to tourists and each year, in the first 2 weekends of March, the area hosts the 'Mercury Bay Art Escape', opening over 40 studios to to the public.
Our coastal sea and shore provide great opportunities for fishing, swimming and walking and there are many tourist providers who can enhance your exploration of this area.
There are many bush walks and tramping trails throughout the peninsula which is comprised of a central forest covered range with bush running down to the sea in many areas. The peninsula was formed by volcanic action and the geology of the area is fascinating, especially where rock formations showing old flows of lava and blow holes and caves are visible along the coastline.

The land supports a mixture of farming and orcharding with a mix of forestry planting and preserved native bush.
Situated in a kiwi protection area, we are creating an environment where native forest and bird life flourish.
Our group works to ensure the long-term survival of "Whenuakite's" kiwi population and has a great success rate in increasing kiwi numbers.
Morepork - our native owl, and the occasional kiwi can be heard calling in the evenings.
When it comes to activities, or exploring the stunning area around us, we can point you in the direction of bush and beach walks, and local pipi gathering grounds.
Just 10 minutes away on "Hot Water Beach" you can dig your own sand spa, swim and laze at nearby "Hahei Beach", and kayak or snorkel in the "Marine Reserve". Dont miss walking the bush lined track to the stunning, world renowned "Cathedral Cove".
The many nearby beaches and rocky points provide good swimming, surfing and fishing opportunities and there is a wide choice of local fishing and scenic boat trips offering.
Eat out at a range of delightful local restaurants including the N.Z. award winning "Colenso Cafe", just 4 minutes away, and "The Church Restaurant" at Hahei, - a popular choice with our guests.
