The SpaceThe guest area, in this newly finished home is the whole first floor; over 1,000 square feet of living space, completely separated from the rest of the house. (I live upstairs) Its far more than just a room…!! The rental area is roomy and bright with high ceilings, in-floor heat for comfort in winter and the shower has endless hot water. It is kept naturally cool in summer. The rental area includes a bedroom with a queen bed, the TV and sitting area, a library space, an extra sitting room, and the bathroom and is set up for one or two people. (extra guests, including children must be approved before booking) You have a microwave, small fridge, complimentary tea/coffee bar, wi-fi and satellite TV. (Note though, that it is NOT a fully equipped cooking rental but geared rather to provide for your smaller food needs. I pick up the dishes daily and clean them for you.) The rental area is very clean and pet free. (the two resident dogs live upstairs only) There is couch in the extra sitting room that folds out if you need two beds. A complimentary breakfast of yogurt, juice, fresh fruit, coffee/tea, and cereal is provided. If you have any special requirements, you can let me know when you book. The grounds around the house are grassy and there is a large deck within the fenced yard in back. There are chairs to sit on and move around to one of the many little areas that suits your mood.  The house is located at 2100 ft. , (exactly 5.25 miles) up Courtney Rd., above the Columbia River on the Washington side. The first picture above shows the general location of the house, and is about a half mile walk out the door. It is almost always ten degrees cooler up here in the summer than down at river level. We get lovely light breezes and the air is fresh and clean as we are above all the orchards and away from pesticides, highway smells, etc. Right out the driveway is great road biking, mountain biking, road running, trail running, hiking and world class paragliding. There are several short strolls that are lovely as well. The house is about 20-25 minutes from either town, and is a perfect contrast to a long day of driving or playing in town.  Remember the distance to town when planning your arrival and evening.   The property itself has a lovely view of Mt Hood, along with a beautiful meadow of waving grass and newly opened up regional views to the east from recent logging. You can walk to the path, ( a half mile through our "neighborhood") that runs along the ridge and enjoy the view in the picture. Or you can walk down Courtney about 3/4 of a mile to one of the best views in the Gorge, ( also pictured) We are at the top of two major trail systems; Hospital Hill and the Syncline/Coyote Cliffs.. There are two ways of getting here: One option is straight up Courtney Rd., which quickly and dramatically climbs the hillside to the top of Burdoin Mt. If you don't mind a few twists and turns and a few miles of primitive, gravel road at the end, I recommend it in good weather for ease of finding the house as well as the sheer beauty of the drive. You simply check the odometer and go exactly 5.25 miles and turn left into the driveway. There is another access from White Salmon which is less dramatic and more gentle, going around the back of the mountain. Follow: Jewett Blvd. to N.Main, then turn right onto Snowden. Right onto Bates for 1 mile, then right onto Tunnel (it merges eventually with Bristol but ignore the name change, just go straight through) Turn right on Courtney and go 7/10 mile to the driveway on your right, turn in. The drive takes 15 to 20 minutes from White Salmon. Guest AccessThe guest area is accessed by the red doors in front on the main floor. (When guests are here, I use the upper doors and go around the back stairs.) When you arrive, please ring the doorbell and I will let you in and get you stituated. You can enjoy the bench on the porch right outside your door or go into the back and use the fenced yard and deck. All the grounds are yours to enjoy as well. The upstairs, garage, and an office downstairs with a separate entrance are my private areas. Interaction with GuestsI try to be there to great you when you arrive to show you around the space and get you settled. After that you have your privacy. While you are here, I'm usually around in the evenings for a chat, to answer questions or help you out in any way during your stay. The NeighborhoodThe Columbia Rim Estates has some full time residents and some vacation homes. Most of the homes are pretty spread apart and the feeling is so peaceful and relaxed that you really feel like you are away from it all. Getting AroundPublic transportation is something we do not have in the area.

The SpaceThe space is private and beautiful. The house was built in 1942 and recently renovated. The room has a lot of natural light and stunning views of the river and Hood River / Mt. Hood. It is on a small side street and doesn't have any traffic. The only noise comes from the highway across the river and the trains coming down the Gorge. It's very peaceful and relaxing. The bed is a medium/firm pillowtop Beautyrest mattress. It has nice linens and a down duvet. There is no AC, but the room has a ceiling fan, and with the windows open, the room cools down quickly as the heat of the day passes. The room doesn't share walls with any of the other bedrooms, but does share a wall with the upstairs bathroom. The house has two bathrooms, both of which are shared. The upstairs bathroom has a full size tub, and the same views that the bedrooms share. The downstairs bathroom has a shower. The room comes with two bathrobes for your privacy. The house is just two blocks from downtown White Salmon, which has a number of options for coffee, food, and entertainment. Guest AccessYou are welcome to relax at home and enjoy the living room and deck. I cook a lot and I ask that guests not use the kitchen. One of my favorite things is cooking for people and entertaining. I hope that while you are staying with me that I am able to make a meal for you. If you are staying longer than a few days and would like access to the kitchen, feel free to ask. Interaction with GuestsI live at the house by myself and work during the day. I stay pretty busy with activities after work and I am typically getting out of the house on the weekends. I love getting to know new people and am typically around in the evenings. Other Things to NoteI am pretty social and there may be other people around or visiting.

The SpaceBright, airy and huge daylight basement apartment (850 square feet!) - this space is part of our larger family home. Central air with radiant floor heat. Private patio with BBQ, sitting area and access to large yard. Television, wifi access, DVD player and a Wii. (Yes, a Wii!!!) One bedroom space with pull-out couch (with great and cozy bedding) and room for additional air-mattress (upon request and discussion that would bump up the number this space can accommodate to 6). Over-the-top large walk-in closet (we're talking almost another bedroom here). We try and stock the house with some local goods to give you a taste (and try) of what is going on around here. Won't list them all here, but our good friend and talented artist Barbara Murphy ((URL HIDDEN) will have several of her pieces hanging in our space (and available for purchase) as well as some pieces from our friends at Klickitat Pottery. And you'll be more than stoked with the coffee - from our friends at STOKED Roasters (in Hood River). More added as we run across local gems. Guest AccessAs a guest, you will have private access to the space (2 options of doors), and to everything except for a storage closet and the utility room on this floor. Guests also have access to private deck (we may be passing through side yard to pick tomatoes from the garden and we may even give you some if you're around). Interaction with GuestsOur family lives upstairs and should be available for the most part during your visit. We like our privacy and will respect yours as well. However, we're friendly enough (the kids are too old for biting, or so they say), that if you would like input on local information or need directions or just a good old fashioned chat, don't hesitate to let us know. The NeighborhoodWe live in a super quiet neighborhood within a mile of downtown White Salmon that allows you to refresh and recharge yourself after a busy day on the water or on the trails. We face south-west and therefore have brighter days than our poor neighbors in Hood River. (We know they are jealous.) Just feet from the property is our local Loop Trail that is great for a bike ride and for running. We have blackberry patches in the neighborhood that are super handy (and yummy) in the summer time. Just down the road (walking distance if you like a good stretch of the legs) we have Henni's, Everybody's Brewing and Pioneer Pizza. Get in the car and head down the hill to our neighbor Bingen for some great Chicago style pizza at Beneventi's. Several places to get coffee. Lots of places to try local wines and beer. We have 2 markets - Harvest Market (decent size and good variety that you'd find in all of your larger city chain markets) and FEAST - local organic style market and deli. Getting AroundNo public transportation in the area, so you'll need wheels to get around and see the sites. Biking into town is a possibility if you're bringing your bike. And you'll have your own private parking (for up to 2 cars only please). Other Things to NoteWe have a cat. He is very friendly. He may try and come in to visit you. We'd prefer that you don't let him, as we would like to keep the space as cat-hair-free as possible for all future guests. Don't worry, he won't hold much of a grudge.

The SpaceThis house is very private and quiet despite being centrally located on the main road between Bingen and White Salmon. Guest AccessYou have access to the entire house and garage, and you are welcome to borrow our windsurfing and skiing equipment. Getting AroundThere is lots of parking on the property. You can walk to Bingen or White Salmon, and it's a short drive to Hood River. White Salmon has excellent restaurants and amenities like a grocery store and pharmacy. Other Things to NoteThis is a bluff home with beautiful views, but that means there's a steep, dangerous drop off that is not suitable for unsupervised children.

The SpaceThis is one of the town's original houses - there's an old photo in the house to prove it - but it's got more of a cottage feel. In the summer, the places to be are on the front deck (coffee with croissant from White Salmon Baking Co.), or in the backyard for afternoon sun on the deck, and then dinner under the wisteria-covered trellis. In the winter, sitting in the living room with a fire, or hanging in the kitchen - with friends at the counter and some local brews (Double Mountain, Pfriem or Everybody's), or a local Pinot (Gorge or Willamette). The bathroom and the master bedroom (with doors onto the back deck) are on the main floor. The second floor is comprised of two open areas and two bedrooms; one with a single bed and the other with a double. Both bedrooms have huge screened windows for summer breezes. The open areas have been used as kid's sleeping areas and there are two fold-up foam cushions that can be used as kid-sized mattresses (bring sleeping bags). We've been renting this house on another owners' vacation rental site (with some great detailed reviews) for several years now and are relatively new to Airbnb. Guest AccessThe whole house is accessible. Interaction with GuestsWe're always available by phone, and have someone a few blocks away to help in person if need be. The NeighborhoodWe're in a quiet part of town with fantastic neighbors, and only a short walk to practically everything you might need. The local recommendations are many, but here are the best within a 5-7 min walk: - White Salmon public pool in the summer - especially for kids - Everybody's Brew Pub - White Salmon Baking Co. - Henni's Kitchen & Bar - North Shore Cafe - Feast Market & Deli But there's obviously more than just the local neighborhood. In terms of outdoor activities, the list is way too long. And for hiking, we strongly recommend picking up a copy of Curious Gorge at the Waucoma bookstore in Hood River. Getting AroundThere's ample street parking in front of the house. You could probably get away with never leaving town (we've fallen into that trap), but there are too many thing to do and see...

The SpaceA bee hive and a chicken coop are in the garden. Don't worry. No roosters. If you are truly allergic to bees you might think twice...but honey bees do not bother with people. Sometimes in their final days they are on the ground...wear your flip flops outside. I have both a queen sized bed, and a comfortable double futon bed. Perfect set up for a family with kids. Maybe a little tight for 4 adults, but several groups have done it. Guest AccessThe apartment opens into a private fenced back yard. If you are coming with your dog, he is contained (as long as you close the gate door). Interaction with GuestsThis apartment is adjacent to the main house, though it is totally separated by a different entrance and gate. If I am home, I may be available for a visit. Certainly always available for any problems or questions, if I am not home there is someone waiting in the wings to handle whatever you need help with. Don't hesitate to reach out. My goal is to make your time safe and enjoyable. I welcome constructive criticism. Please share if there is something that could/should be better. The NeighborhoodMy place is near the end of a dead end street. It is a sparsely populated neighborhood, and a hop, skip and jump from downtown White Salmon. There are no street lights on this road. So if you are arriving after dark, please let me know and I will make sure to have the patio lights, motion detector and an inside light on. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation here. Sad, but true. That is rural living. Other Things to NoteTrash removal is on Wednesdays. So if you are here for a while, just take your trash out to the bin. There is a blue recycling bag in the storage area adjacent to the apartment. All paper and plastic, basically everything but glass. There is a plastic container for glass, I will take it to the transfer station. I will walk through your yard at least once a day to feed and water the chickens. It is usually brief.

The SpaceThe studio is one large room with plenty of windows and a set of french doors, and a full bathroom. French doors on the east wall and windows on all other sides of the building let in lots of light and look out into the surrounding treetops. The unique shape of the roofline creates a cozy feel to the room. We have a pool table in the middle of the room that is normally covered and protected so you can use it as a large table area. Guest AccessThe Studio is located in our backyard, with its own access and parking. You'll have access to the whole upstairs and deck, and there's a patio downstairs that you are welcome to use. We'll also share our gas grill if you're interested in cooking a meal outside. If you'd like to use the pool table we ask for an additional refundable deposit of $500 in advance. Please let us know if you are interested when you book, otherwise we'll keep it covered for protection and you can use it as a table for your luggage or whatever. Interaction with GuestsWe are usually available to help our guests, and happy to orient you to White Salmon and the gorge. If we're not at home, we will make sure there is a local contact if you need anything. The NeighborhoodOur place is in a beautiful part of White Salmon. From your deck you'll have a glimpse of the Columbia River through the trees. Directly behind our place is the forested slope of Strawberry Mountain. You can walk up and over this old volcano on residential streets, partially through the woods. Across the street from us are the city tennis courts--4 of them that almost always have availability. They're located in the City Park, which has great views of Mt Hood from the grassy slopes. A block away from the studio is the public pool, and a three or four block walk puts you in downtown White Salmon where you can get fresh bread baked daily in a wood-fired oven, healthy breakfast and lunch foods, good coffee, a locally brewed ale, or a fantastic dinner. White Salmon also has an awesome bookstore you may want to browse. Getting AroundPublic transportation is sketchy in the Columbia Gorge. We do have the name of a cab company in the studio, which has private parking just off Lincoln avenue. Other Things to NoteOur studio is perfect for one or two adult guests. We are willing to consider one additional child, with prior notice.

The SpaceThe cabin is located within the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. It's set on 5 acres in the highest meadows of Burdoin Mountain (elevation 2,250 ft.). The access is on improved gravel road (about 1.25 miles from paved road). This area offers great hiking and mountain biking out the back door. The couch (pull-out bed) and window nooks are also "sleep friendly". There are wall heaters and radiant floor heating (really only needed in winter). There is a ceiling fan. Otherwise, at this elevation, its usually suffices to have windows open at night to stay cool. Shower (on-demand hot water) is detached from bathroom. No washer/dryer onsite. Guest AccessAccess is by lockbox. Interaction with GuestsYou can call or email us with any questions or concerns. The NeighborhoodIt's a rural neighborhood with a mix of vacation and permanent residences. The people who live here love the outdoors and Gorge living. The cabin is located "up Snowden Road" about 2,000 feet above the Columbia River. It's east (the dryer side) of the Cascade Mountain spine, where in the gorge, the annual rainfall totals drop about 2 inches a mile from Cascade Locks, Ore. to Mosier, Ore. and the vegetation changes from evergreen forest to grasslands. White Salmon (15 minutes) offers great restaurants (Henni's, Pioneer Pizza), bars and brewpub (Everybody's Brewing), coffee shops, a bakery, wine shop, supermarket, laundromat and more. River rafting on White Salmon River is simply fantastic. Of course, Hood River (20 minutes) is just across the bridge and is infamous for windsurfing, kiting, orchards and serving the tourist industry with fantastic eats and drinks. The downtown shopping district is picturesque and the burgeoning riverfront event center is perfect for taking in the whole gorge vibe and scene. The stellar waterfall viewing/hiking is just downriver. On both sides of the river, there is an abundance of wineries and cider makers. Getting AroundThis is a car-dependent community. Car hailing services available. There is an Amtrak stop in Bingen/White Salmon or commercial bus serves Hood River. Other Things to NoteAbout the cabin: The final occupancy permit was issued in 2003. It resides in the Columbia Rim Estates, which was awarded the "Best Tasting Water in the USA" in 2002. The construction incorporates 8 gables and 3 extended window and sleeping nooks (including the lower bedroom). It is strategically set to point toward the three view highlights -- Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and the Eastern Columbia River Gorge. The main floor is Mexican terra cotta pavers (as evidenced by coyote paw prints on some tiles) with radiant heat coil sub layer. The main counter is made of Bubinga African hardwood. The ceiling and trim work is all western pine. We have a penchant for rock cairns (and low rock walls) which will be evident on the property upon arrival.
