One of Wilmington's most popular private rentals, Otter Chalet has 2 large bedrooms, 3 full baths, a sleeping dorm with 3 thick, comfortable and queen-sized futons and Satellite TV, a sleeping loft with a queen futon, two 42" HDTV Flat Screen TVs with Satellite, and great views of Whiteface Mountain and the Ausable River. Otter Chalet can comfortably sleep 12. Don't be fooled! Some of the most elegant rentals in Wilmington are on half acre patches, right on busy roads, without walkable water access. Be sure that "private" means private. At Otter Chalet, the kids can safely camp outside, and draw their sleeping bags up to a roaring campfire, or camp inside in the dorm room, where they can play the Chalet's air hockey and foos-ball games, or watch Satellite TV. Log Cabin Wet Sauna, hot tub, satellite TV, DVD, VCR, stereo, high-speed wireless internet, microwave, barbecue, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and linens will help make Otter Chalet a convenient and hassle free vacation. Folks who stay at Otter Chalet may use the canoe and 3 kayaks provided on the river and Lake Everest without charge. Otter Chalet enjoys unimpeded views of Whiteface, Esther, Lookout and Marble Mountains, while the Wildlife Refuge next door includes an official New York State DEC Fishing Preserve within its Northern boundary, a guided, wildlife refuge hiking trail suitable for kids and dogs, and a lovely Adirondack meadow, suitable for picnics or snow football, surrounded by towering white pines. Canoe or kayak up and down the beautiful Ausable River, swim, fish for your dinner, or just sit back and observe as the local natural inhabitants play, browse, pursue and earn survival. We've seen Eagle, Hawk, Owl, Osprey, Loon, Heron, Merganser, Hummingbird, Pileated Woodpecker, Ermine, Bobcat, Fox, Coyote, Black Bear, Mink, Beaver, Porcupine, Deer, and Otter on Otter Chalet property, but the only people you'll see are folks paddling by in canoes and kayaks. Canoe into shallow water sloughs and channels on both sides of the river, where your kids will delight in seeing beaver, otter, frogs, painted turtles and herons. Hike any of the hundreds of trails in the region, mountain-bike, snow-shoe, cross-country ski up and down the river in front of the houses, downhill ski at Whiteface (or ride the gondola up with your mountain bike in the Summer), take fly fishing lessons, or just drive around and take in the incomparable beauty of Autumn in New York's Adirondack Mountains. In the evening, relax around the campfire outside, take in the stars, listen to the Wilmington Riverside rock & country concerts every Thursday night within 2 miles of the Lodge, or go into Lake Placid for dining and entertainment. Otter Chalet is a place to get away from it all, to rebuild, regroup, and face your busy lives with a renewed perspective. Local craftsmen have built the homes using locally milled lumber. The homes also have synthetic green siding. Durable siding reduces demand for harvesting, extracting raw materials & reduces waste. All of the homes use a solar water heater. We like having a solar water heater because besides saving you money, solar water heaters also provide big benefits to the planet by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and demand for fossil fuels. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, replacing an electric water heater with a solar water heater offsets the equivalent of 40% to 100% of a typical passenger car?s CO2 output.

Adirondack style log home - newly built and located on the Ausable River with mountain views of Whiteface! Come enjoy the Adirondacks based out of this perfect log home with rustic charm, views, and peacefulness, located a minute away from Wilmington town center and 5 minutes away from Whiteface Mt Olympic ski area! The log home is 1400 sq. ft , complete with beautiful, real, round log exterior walls, cedar and pine ceilings, hardwood floors, and giant log beams, with a huge 12'x24' ft exterior deck overlooking the Ausable River, and a master bedroom balcony over cedar logs, with direct views of Whiteface Mt and the Wilmingon Range. Just built in the fall of 2013, this brand new home was lovingly built by life-long Adirondack resident and owner and Johnathan Esper, with meticulous attention to log design born from the owner's fond memories of growing up in a log home. The log house is built almost over the Ausable River, set amid some towering white pines on the steep river bank, with no neighboring houses adjacent or across from the house. The sounds of the West Branch of the Ausable River, or the wind through the pines from atop the cedar balcony, are the only thing one hears from the house, despite being located most conveniently only 30 seconds to the center of the small town of Wilmington and it's various shops. Exterior soffitt lights cast spellbinding shadow patterns of the round log textures and cedar shake gables, making twilight a wonderful time to come home. The first floor of the house follows an open floorplan concept with kitchen, dining, and living rooms, plus a full bath and laundry room and bedroom with double bed. Enjoy the cozy gas fireplace with real flames, while looking out the window toward the Wilmington Range. Radiant in-floor heating throughout the house also provides warmth and coziness, and in the hotter summer months, the natural thermal properties of logs keep the house cool, along with french bi-fold doors opening onto the deck for fresh air. The kitchen is fully equipped for you to make lovely meals if you so wish, with brand new appliances. Upstairs is the master suite area including loft and bath. The bedroom featuring a walkout balcony accessed via french doors, and mountain views from the queen size bed. The upstairs bathroom is entirely of slate tile and red cedar, with a large jacuzzi hot-tub, glass shower, and dual flush European style toilet. There is a large loft area, which can enjoyed as a lounging area for the master suite, or desk working area, or kids sleeping area with a comfy new futon that can lay out flat for children. The 46'er, Heaven on Earth The "46'er", named for those that have mastered the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, keeps with the tradition of 46'ers. She is well equipped, well oriented and surrounded by beauty, leaving you never wanting to return home. The chalet is completely remodeled with hard wood floors, skylights, new kitchen and bathroom. Special aesthetic touches like the twig work rails are combined with comfortable furnishings and the feel of a new house that we invite you to make your home while visiting the Adirondacks. The chalet features: A Private Master Bedroom with a Queen Size Bed, A Loft with Twin Beds and A Queen Size Futon in the living room for sleeping two adults or three children. All new mattresses and bed linens. The chalet is really special in that it is comfortable for a family or a group of friends, yet still intimate for a couple alone. It's a great place just 'to be'- sitting up in the loft in the comfy oversized chair, reading a good book while listening to the gentle rain on the skylight or in the living room snuggled on the couch by the fireplace warming your soul. (At the 46'er your firewood is cut, stacked and ready to go). Or perhaps you prefer sitting on the meditation pillow, listening to transcendental music while receiving the healing energy of this magical place. There is always a soft throw or a blanket at hand to wrap yourself in and many beautiful pillows to arrange for that 'just perfect fit'. In the winter, you'll appreciate the hot water radiators for warming-up your towels or drying wet mitts and socks. The new boiler provides (truly!) unlimited hot water for showers. Unlike just another impersonal rental property, you'll find the warmth and comfort of home with soft cushy towels, down pillows and comforters. The kitchen is well equipped, making it easy to fix a simple breakfast or a Thanksgiving Feast. When your spirit moves you beyond the chalet, so much awaits! First you'll encounter the large, wrap around deck which sports Adirondacks chairs and an outdoor dining area, and sometimes chickadees that will eat from your hands. You may not get much further for awhile. Many guests fall into the hammock for a snooze or fire up the grill to cook the trout they caught. The hot tub invites you for that romantic or relaxing dip after the day on the mountain. In the evening, there is the stone ring campfire for all the stories of the day. Behind the chalet there are trails for walking, hiking, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. You may use our canoe to explore one of the many waterways nearby. We also have two bicycles available for you. Community tennis courts, ball parks, Lake Everest Beach with live summer concerts are just minutes away. If you wish, there are stables and miles of woodland trails for riding. Lessons available for English, Western and Polo. You can climb the walls of Wilmington Notch, taking in the most breathtaking aerial views of the valley below. For the most exhilarating experience, You've Got To Go! for the dip in the Copperas Pond after climbing. The chalet is nestled on a hillside facing Whiteface and Stephenson Ranges. Whiteface Olympic Mountain, which is two miles away, offers the ultimate in winter sports. It was voted the Best Ski Center in the North East! In the Summer time, you can enjoy the thrill of mountain biking on the special trail system. In the fall, many enjoy the Gondola for leaf peeping. Less than a mile away there is the West Ausable River, world famous for its trout fishing. In Wilmington, it shoots rapidly through a deep, granite walled gorge, creating the most dramatic and mesmerizing flume - our favorite spot. The village of Wilmington is one of the best kept secrets in the Adirondacks. It's off the main track, giving you the pristine natural beauty of the Park while providing easy access to amenities. Within minutes of the chalet, we have dining experiences ranging from hamburgers to gourmet fare. The village provides a grocery store, tackle shop, and specialty shops like The Candy Man Chocolate Factory. Just minutes from the town center, you enter The North Pole with Santa's Workshop. For those that want to experience the breathtaking views from Whiteface Mountain but don't prefer to hike, there is the beautiful, winding Memorial Highway leading to the summit just west of the village. Lake Placid Village with all that it has to offer is just ten beautiful miles away on the most picturesque road of the Adirondacks.
