This historic home on 24 wooded acres in New Hampshire about 20 minutes south of Keene was built in 1774 and occupied by a Revolutionary War family. Additions over the centuries make it a rich experience of history, nature, fireplaces and wood-burning stoves, rich furnishings, and modern amenities! The original structure, known as the "settler's cabin," is now a book-filled den built around a hearth, which stands on New Hampshire granite. The "great room" is a "center cape" -- multiple living rooms surrounding a chimney that hosts three fireplaces. (On the floor, Persian rugs warm your feet. Above the dark wood-beamed ceilings, two bedrooms on the floor are stay warmed by the heat below.) Each of these rooms also has a wood-burning stove -- charm in the warms months, essential heat in the cold ones. The gorgeously decorated, wood-floored dining room also has a wood stove and views out onto gardens and forest surrounding the property, as does the modern (recently built) master bedroom. The sitting room has floor to ceiling windows looking out onto green forest, the vibrant color of fall leaves, or the snowfall in winter -- visual delights for every season. There are two kitchens. The older one is now a "prep kitchen" for the new, fully modern one. Beyond, two small bedrooms are perfect nooks for kids or guests who wants privacy and quiet away from the social rooms of the house. This forest hideaway can be your staging area for the many activities and sights that New Hampshire offers in all seasons, but once you settle in, you'll want to just stay, relax and enjoy the enveloping peace of the house and the property.

The SpaceThis is an incredible historic home on a gravel road in the forest. Spring, summer, fall, and winter, it's a beautiful rustic space. The tensions of the world melt away as you drive the forested roads, arrive on this gorgeous property, and enter to see rich wood floors, Persian rugs, lovely furnishings, fireplaces, and wood stoves that transport you to a more relaxed time. The house itself has five bedrooms (1 king, 2 queens, and 2 single beds). Though it has all the charm of its historic roots, the home has a new kitchen and modern amenities to keep you comfortable and connected. Make this your annual relaxation space -- or home base for all the activities and sights that New England has to offer. Guest AccessYou'll have the run of the place during your stay, including miles of dirt roads and trails to hike. Enjoy! Interaction with GuestsWe have a local caretaker - the former owner of the home - who is very good and will attend to any maintenance promptly. As we do not live locally, we rely on you to communicate your needs to us through AirBnB, and we will get them taken care of! The NeighborhoodRichmond, New Hampshire, is about 20 minutes south of Keene, a lovely town with shops and dining. Brattleboro, Vermont, is just 30 minutes away to the west, a lovely drive to a gorgeous New England town. And a little further away to the south is Amherst, Massachusetts, and the rest of the Pioneer Valley. The home is on a (well-maintained) gravel road, far from any traffic or noise. There is a pond across the road, good for a local dip in summer, and a larger, still secluded lake is down the road about a mile. You don't have to travel any main roads to get to Swanzey Lake Camping Area, which rents row boats, paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes, as well as providing many other recreational activities and amenities. For hiking, go across the road and up the hill to a beautiful view. Or do the four-mile loop from the road at the north end of the property around to the Quint Preserve and back. The SpaceWe are just a short distance from a Connecticut River Boat launch, Pisgah State Park, Warrwick and Mt. Grace State Forests, and the Metacomet-Monadnock trail system. We do have our own trails off of the property and just on the other side of "our" little mountain is a section of a rails to trails system, which stretches for miles between Keene (NH), Brattleboro (VT), and Northfield (MA). Our home, decorated with vintage and antique items and furniture, is perfect for a retreat or a base for your outdoor adventures. We love our animals: alpaca, horses, chickens, 2 cats, and a dog. We also love the animals that venture into our yard. Recently a moose took out a section of our horse fencing. Though, mostly we see deer, coyotes, fox, possums, countless numbers and species of song birds, and birds of prey (a pair of red-tailed hawks nest here and bald eagles fly over frequently in the summer and fall months). We have some sporting equipment we can offer; snow shoes, and a couple of sets of cross country skis (for the right size people) & kyaks if you can transport them. We also have a hot tub located under the stars that can be used any time of the year & a gazebo that is nestled on the front lawn with a gas fire bowl, swing, and bistro table for leisurely pleasures. We invite you to visit us Guest AccessOur home divides into two sections quite easily. The front portion of the house has incredible views and is an area we hope our quests will enjoyp. Three bedrooms are upstairs (one with a queen size bed, one with a full size bed, and the third with one or two single beds). We also keep a full size bed in the living room as extra lounging space. There is a bathroom upstairs with a shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for guest use. We ask that should you like to use any of our sporting equipment you make arrangements ahead of time. Interaction with GuestsWe do expect that we will be home to welcome our visitors and that most often we will be present through the duration of their stay. We live in a separate apartment attached to the house. Our interaction with guests is typically limited to greeting them. We are available by phone to answer any questions that our guests may have and are willing always to help with suggestions for outings. Getting AroundWe unfortunately do not have public transportation nearby. There is a train station in Brattleboro. The train is sporadic through the day and runs north to south. The bus can be board in Keene, Brattleboro or Greenfield, depending on where you are seeking to travel to. There is a local bus in Brattleboro called the Moover (Cow Powered!), which can take people along VT route 9. We suggest having your own car to visit us. Other Things to NoteOur two cats may visit you at your request. There is a cat door that can be unlocked if you are hoping for a visit. Parents: Please note, we love having young ones visit with us. The alpaca, especially love little children. Our home is furnished and decorated with many antiques and vintage items, is over 200 years-old and can, for some families, be a hard space to manage for multiple young children, specifically toddlers, so we limit the ages of children who come to stay her to under 1 years and older than 6 years. We are in a rural area. There are convenience stores, a local grocery store and several farm stands with local produce within ten minutes from us. Keene is a 20-30 minutes drive depending upon traffic and the route chosen to get there. Brattleboro and Greenfield are each 20 minutes from the house. Please consider this as you plan your trip.

We invite you to visit us soon! Guest AccessOur home is close by, just down the hill a little. The camper has incredible views and is in a very quiet and peaceful area. There are three beds in the camper and the max capacity is 4 people. The kitchen table folds into and bed and so does the couch We ask that folks bring their own linens and that they leave the camper spotless, so other guests can come in and enjoy the space. There is a bathroom with a shower. The kitchen is equipped for guest use. We also ask that should you like to use any of our sporting equipment you make arrangements ahead of time. Interaction with GuestsWe do expect that we will be home to welcome our visitors and that most often we will be present through the duration of their stay. We live in the house just down the hill. Other Things to NoteParents: Please note, we love having young ones visit with us. The alpaca, especially love little children. Please always be present with your children when visiting the farm and animals here. We are in a rural area. There are convenience stores, a local grocery store and several farm stands with local produce within ten minutes from us. Keene is a 25-30 minutes drive depending upon traffic and the route chosen to get there. Brattleboro and Greenfield are each 20 minutes from the house. Please consider this as you plan your trip.

This beautiful, historic home is hidden away on 24 wooded acres on a gravel road in southwest New Hampshire. It's a short distance from Keene, a little further to Brattleboro, Vermont, and just a bit further than that to Amherst, Massachusetts. They're all great to visit. The home itself was built in 1774 and occupied by a Revolutionary War family. Additions over the centuries make it an experience of quiet nature, wood heat, rich furnishings, and modern amenities. Spring, summer, fall, and winter, it's a beautiful rustic space. The house has five bedrooms (1 king, 2 queens, and 2 single beds). You'll lose count of the fireplaces and wood-burning stoves that lend to the ambiance and keep the house warm for you in fall and winter. Though it has all the charm of its historic roots, the home has a new kitchen and modern amenities to keep you comfortable and connected. Make this your annual relaxation space -- or home base for all the activities and sights that New England has to offer, including hiking, swimming, kayaking or canoeing, golf, horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing, skating, and so much more.
