Beautifully decorated one bedroom vacation rental apartment in a quiet coastal village. Recently renovated and refurnished in the winter of 2012 after a long term tenant of thirteen years had a change of circumstances and moved back home to Ohio. In fact, when we had to come up with a name for the apartment, he had lived there so long and had become such a part of everyones lives we were seriously tempted to call it "Fred's Place" and privately still do refer to it that way but that's another story. Anyway, I think my favorite feature is the black granite and white ceramic tiled kitchen floor. We try very hard to maintain it very clean and in above average condition. The SpaceWhat you find here is a lovely home nestled within gardens and surrounded by many forested acres. The location is less then a half mile from the light house you see in the photos section. The home is also a six minute walk (less than a tenth of a mile drive) to one of the few sand beaches in this area if a brisk swim in the Atlantic Ocean is your cup of tea. Of course, a mere 5 minute drive (less than 5 miles) brings you to Acadia National Park's Schoodic Point Section, a truly beautiful gem of nearly four thousand acres. Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park is a spectacular peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic. Bold rocky coast, several miles of hiking trails, and 8 miles of beautifully maintained bike trails in this part of Acadia for you to explore. Ideal for a picnic on the rocks at the shore, to a day of hiking if that is your pleasure. Guest AccessMy home is yours for your stay. The full large living room, large sunroom, kitchen, your bedroom, open deck to the front, small screened in porch to the back shady side of the house, all grounds, gardens, with paths on this property, well marked trails nearby, the bike trails / hiking paths of the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park, and other choices for hikes on other Preserve Lands - for which there are links online. I have several suggestions printed out for you in a notebook here at the house for your convenience. Interaction with GuestsWritten information detailing area restaurants, artists, galleries, and the many outdoor adventure opportunities is available in a notebook which I have prepared for you. I greet you upon your arrival to welcome you and answer any immediate questions. During your stay, I'm available by text or phone almost any time for further questions or if there should be an emergency. The NeighborhoodThe Peninsula is made up of several smaller fishing villages where people have lived by the sea and their own efforts for many generations. It is also a haven for artists, craftspeople, and writers who chose this area for its unsurpassed beauty and relative peacefulness, away from the hubbub of more crowded areas. Getting AroundThere is private parking here on site. There are bike trails nearby (rentals available through a local business in Winter Harbor, 5 miles away), hiking trails, free Island Explorer bus every half hour on this Peninsula during the summer with a pick up point 7/10ths of a mile from here. The bus also stops almost anywhere that is a safe stopping point along the route to pick up passengers. This summer (2016) there are two passenger ferries leaving Winter Harbor and crossing Frenchman Bay to Bar Harbor. One drops you in the heart of Bar Harbor where you can access a system of free shuttle buses which leave every few minutes from the town green. The other is a research vessel affiliated with College of the Atlantic which drops you at the COA, a lovely campus of note. The free Island Explorer buses also stop at COA regularly and shuttle you almost anywhere on the Island. The ferries runs through September 15th. I believe, this season (2016) the Bar Harbor Ferry will run through Columbus Day. Otherwise, if you wish to explore Bar Harbor and MDI by car, it is a 44 mile drive from here with the usual summer traffic. Other Things to NoteThe refrigerator and pantry will be stocked with fresh organic eggs from my neighbor's "happy chickens" along with other breakfast type items. There is a grocery store 5 miles away, ample staples in the cupboards, an organic farm, restaurants, & deli nearby.
