Cottage Connection was one of the first vacation rental companies in the Mid-coast region of Maine. Jeff and Audrey Miller, who own three vacation rental homes themselves had an aha moment when they realized they could not find anyone who ‘got it’ to manager their rentals for them. Since 1993 they have been trusted by homeowners and vacationers to “connect” each family with the perfect cottage for their vacation. As Audrey puts it; “The home they stay in becomes a personality, a part of their lore when a family connects with the right cottage. Whether they want a rustic cabin in the woods or a high-end ocean bungalow, the right setting sets the tone for the entire vacation.” Learn more about how Cottage Connection can help make your vacation perfect! WAYNE, MAINE There is a magic in this little town that has captivated locals and visitors for generations. Located in the heart of the lakes region, rural Wayne is a quaint community with a population of 1,189. Situated between Augusta and Lewiston, Wayne is home to many clean beautiful lakes and ponds and is centrally located for day trips to explore Maine. ABOUT Property Owners Year Purchased: 2006 About one owner: My husband and I both have great memories of spending time on the water. I have fond memories of spending summers on a small lake in Maine from the age of five. My brother and I would swim and build tent houses beside the water, float on inner tubes (big black tire tubes blown up at the local gas station) and go water skiing with the neighboring kids. After a full day of playing in and around the water we would get changed and go for ice cream that was made locally...it tasted so good. We wanted our daughter to have this Maine lake experience. Why the Owner Chose Wayne: My husband and I were on a date back in 1993 visiting our friends who owned the property next door. We were on their boat and we saw this house. We both loved it. Little did we know that this house would be put on the market in 2006 and we would buy it. The Unique Benefits at this Property: This is a peaceful pond most of the time. The sunrises are amazingly beautiful. Loons often spend the summer on the pond along with many other birds and wild life. The yard has lovely gardens and a place to play badminton and croquet. The dock has steps to walk into the lake slowly and there is a swim float anchored off shore. Wayne is a lovely town and day trips are easy. Tubby's for ice cream and the Saturday morning Farmer's Market are both wonderful! This place is magical and restful. Additional amenities include: dock/boat-slip, 2 kayaks (1 adult, 1 child), cassette player, 14' rowboat, cd player, heat, linens (sheets, pillowcases or towels/bath mats) are provided, private swim float, ironing board. Step inside and you will be awestruck by the sweet pine panel aroma and the incredible lake view that is a Maine tradition. It has an open cathedral living/dining room with two fold out futons, a small breakfast table and a large dining table that seats six. A compact and complete kitchen has all of the cooking utensils you will need to prepare meals --just bring your favorite food, a block of ice, and we'll provide the kitchen to get the food prep done. A small indoor 1/2 bath adds modern convenience to the experience. It is equipped with a composting toilet and hand sink. Bathing is done either in the lake, or using the solar shower that is included. A small woodstove, kindling, and firewood come with the accommodations. (You can't visit Maine without at least seeing a woodstove!). Use it for cooking, creating some ambiance, or just taking the edge off a cool evening breeze. The queen size comfy bed in the sleeping loft comes with linens as do the two couches that convert to beds in the living room. Another lounging option is to linger in the indoor hammock that you can attach to the tree in the living room. Outside the Oaktagon The large deck overlooks the canopy and Lake Annabesscook. It is perfect for grilling and enjoying an outdoor meal, bird watching, and having a firefly counting contest. The Oaktagon comes equipped with a few fishing poles and a small tackle box with an assortment of jigs, flies, and line. You are welcome to use them -- just be sure to get a fishing permit before you do so you can be on the right side of Maine's fishing laws. Annabessacook is known as a world class bass fishery -- we don't even have to stock 'em -- it's that good! Guests have exclusive access to the Oaktagon Tree House where they can enjoy privacy and shared access to 1 Big Sustainable Island. There's lots to do on 1 Big Sustainable Island and (as has been the tradition for generations in the neighborhood) visitors are encouraged to stop by (so expect some company from the neighborhood on the island during daylight -- after dark, however, the island is closed to the public). Activities include: Hiking or walking on more than a mile of trails Relaxing under the gazebo Swimming at Loon Point Swinging off the rope swing at the lake's edge Cooking over an open fire Watching the sunset from Proposal Rock Fishing off the dock Kent and Jo are Registered Maine Guides and experienced boaters. In addition to arrival and departure, Jo and Kent are available for extra pontoon boat transport (for an additional fee) for guided tours of the lake or any emergency support.

Please keep the bathroom door and the lid to the toilet closed to help the air flow go up and out the vent. In order for the doors on the toilet to open to allow waste in, you must sit. (Feel free to use a tree outside if you prefer to stand.) After your contribution of #2 please add one scoop of composting material. (No need to add if only #1.) Only toilet paper and human waste go in the toilet. No feminine products or diapers please. If you pee only, put the used toilet paper in the trashcan next to the toilet. Trash: Please separate your trash. Put the burnable waste in the crock by the jelly cupboard, and use it to start your fire in the fire pit. There is a container for compost, one for recycling, and one for trash. Thank you! Water: The hand pump at the kitchen sink pulls water from the lake. If you pump it several times and no water comes out, it needs to be primed. Pull the handle to the up position and pour water into the top of the pump until water flows out the spout. Then pump a number of times. Note: This is not suitable for drinking or cooking. The water in the glass jugs is from our well and is potable. We use lake water to wash our hands and dishes. We boil the lake water, use soap, and then rinse with warm potable water. Fires: No fireworks on the island at any time. Outside fires are allowed only in the fire pit. Attend the fire at all times. The fire should be kept inside the container – no flames above the rim. Keep a bucket of lake water next to the fire at all times. Wet the ground around the fire pit from time to time. Pay careful attention to the direction of the wind as it can change quickly. The crock next to the jelly cupboard is for burnable waste – perfect for starting fires. Matches are in the jelly cupboard. Candles may be lit as long as you are in the room. Please do not leave burning candles unattended. The fire extinguisher is hanging on the wall next to the back door of the cabin. In case of emergency, please call Kent (207.512.2524) or Joanne (207.752.1190). The volunteer fire department will be delayed in responding to a call on the island. Pets: We welcome most dogs on the island. We charge $20/night non-refundable pet fee ($25/night for two). In order to continue allowing dogs on the island we ask that you pick up after your dog. If you see other poop, please pick that up too. (Nothing worse than stepping on poop!) Please keep dogs off the furniture. We have a dog blanket and a dog bowl for their comfort and use. Please have your dog under control. Never leave your dog unattended on the island. THINGS TO DO Boating: There is a canoe and/or kayak available for your leisure. Please keep one life jacket per adult in the boat or on your person while in use. Children must wear a life jacket while in a boat. The paddles and life jackets are in the shed. Please follow boating safety rules while on the lake. Boat Rides: We offer extra pontoon boat rides. If you want to come over to Big Island, or if you want a lift back to your vehicle we are happy to do so. We ask $20 per round trip. Fishing: Fishing permits are $11 per person for a 24-hour period. Augusta West Kampground, located on the north end of the lake, has permits and bait. You may also find bait at South Monmouth Market on Route 126 at the blinking light. Wildlife: The lake and surrounding area is abundant with wildlife. Appreciate the animals from afar. You may come across a nesting area. Please do not disturb! Birds and turtles may become aggressive or abandon their nest if you get too close. Otherwise, the birds may come visit you if you sit very still. There are bird guidebooks in the cabin for your enjoyment. Big Island: To the east, in the center of the lake, is Big Island. It is administered by Jo and Kent’s non-profit, 1 Big Sustainable Island. During the summer months we often have events and activities scheduled which are open to the public. Check with Jo and Kent for more information or find us at Log Book: Please make an entry in the cabin logbook about your stay and feel free to read about what other friends have experienced during their visits to Little Cabin Island. PACKING UP: We do not charge a cleaning fee. We ask as you prepare to leave, please do your dishes and put them away, sweep the floors, and strip the sheets off the bed. If you prefer we handle the cleaning, please leave $50 and we will be happy to clean up. ☺ We at Little Cabin Island welcome you and hope that you find your stay peaceful and restoring. Jo and Kent
