The SpaceA wide angle lens made the room look larger than it really is and I apologize. The bed is a twin size, memory foam mattress for just one person. The bathroom is directly across the hall. Shared bath with a shower. Let me know if you'd like to use the kitchen. You're welcome to share breakfast. The area is popular with cyclists, skiers, fishermen and women, hikers, and birders but there are other things to do too. Very happy to guide you to the best food and other activities as well. There are just a few neighbors here, each with their own 5 or ten acre lot. But to our east, are only a meadow, hills and mountains for as far as you can see. Three miles up the road are little used public tennis court and disc golf. A little further is Grover Hotsprings. Just $7 for an all day soak. You'll need a car or bicycle to get about here. Public transport is minimally available. Guest AccessThere are various places for reading, playing music or enjoying a fire. Arrangements may be made to use the kitchen. We have good wifi but not high speed. Interaction with GuestsWe provide a simple breakfast and enjoy a chat. We'll happily direct you to the best the area has to offer. We endeavor to be warm and friendly but respectful of your privacy. The NeighborhoodThis little neighborhood is hidden from the highway with just a small handful of homes, each on their own 5+acres. We share it with deer, 4 different types of owl, coyote, a bob-cat and lots of summer song birds. Getting AroundYou'll want a car to get here and to get around. Driving is a pleasure as we're located in the middle of 4 gorgeous mountain passes with many peaks over 10,000ft. Public transportation is very limited. We're on a highly rated cycling route - The Markleeville Death Ride and The Alta Alpina Double Century. Other Things to NoteThere's so much to share. Please check out our other listings.

Beautiful views can be had from the couches in the great room, the front and back porch, the dining table, or just lounging on a lazy day in bed. All items out in the open in the garage except for the snow blower available for use by renters including light furniture that can be easily carried to the back porch. You'll have access to plenty of linens and the bathrooms and kitchens should be well stocked with paper towels and toilet paper and more that is yours to use. We try to keep the spices and cooking supplies cabinets well stocked as well when we visit the house, but those supplies depends somewhat on the renters that preceded you. The SpaceThe cabin feels remote but is very easily accessed from the main highway. It is surrounded by 5 acres of pine and aspen trees which itself sits on a valley and hills, undeveloped for as far as the eye can see. The cabin comfortably sleeps up to six people. Guest Access5 outside acres to explore as well as an abundance of hiking, fishing, skiing in the area. This is a great place for families to "un-plug" and has been chosen by some of our tech-industry guests especially for that reason. The cabin has lots of board games, and books, including nature books and natural history for adults. A small old fashioned VHS monitor is tucked away along with a few older movies for your amusement. Cell service seems to vary by provider. We are next door with land lines and wifi for urgent needs. The cabin does not have TV, wifi, or a microwave. The cabin comfortably sleeps six people in five beds: four twin sized beds in the loft and a queen bed in a bedroom. The bedding on all but one bed is down or wool. One twin bed has a synthetic comforter and pillow for an alternative.(URL HIDDEN) Cooking is done on a classic Irish wood cook stove. We provide the wood. For those wishing a simpler approach, there is also an array of small electrical cooking cooking appliances - including a large toaster convection oven, ceramic "hot plates", rice cooker, wok, griddle, crock pot, waffle maker, toaster, coffee maker, tea kettle. The cabin also has central heating which you control. If we should get extremely cold weather you may be asked to leave the kitchen sink at a slow drip. We'll let you know. Over the years we have had children of all ages from infant to teens. It is a rustic environment, as clean as we can possibly provide in a log house, and while toddler welcoming, we are not toddler/child proof. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as they like. We are "next door" on an adjacent 5 acres, a phone call or a three minute walk away. The NeighborhoodEvery house in the neighborhood, 5 besides mine, is situated on its on 5 acres. People are very respectful of each others privacy while at the same time looking out for one another. Getting AroundDriving here is a dream. Other than a caution light marking the turn onto our highway, there isn't a real stop light in the county because one isn't needed. Every road is scenic, and designated as such. The mind and the eyes get a break from all but the natural world. Other Things to NoteWe provide beds, linens, firewood, dish soaps, dishwashing detergent. Our first floors are newly installed hardwood. You may want to bring your own: -slippers -binoculars for wildlife viewing - hiking boots or shoes -device for watching a movie -flashlight -newspaper (it seems we never have to(URL HIDDEN)much on hand for starting fires). -tennis racket(public court is 3 miles) - fishing pole (closest river access is one mile

The SpaceThis is a second floor room with a great view of natural valley, hills and distant mountains. You won't see any other houses but for a peek of a small rustic homestead. At night, our dark skies are all yours. Guest AccessJust outside the room is a lovely sitting/reading area. We don't do TV but acoustical music is always appreciated. Bring your own sheet music for our piano. Virtuosity not required. Interaction with GuestsA simple breakfast is included. Guests are invited to hang-out or retreat to the privacy of their rooms. The NeighborhoodThis neighborhood is tucked into the pine forrest and is quiet and secluded but with easy access to Lake Tahoe 30 minutes and Reno (1 hour). But best of all, is what is just right here within minutes - mountain peaks over 10,000, rivers and streams, nature trails, world class road cycling routes, too much to list here. Getting AroundDriving your own car or rental is best. Public transportation is very limited requiring a day in advance reservations. A few minutes away is an infrequently used but highly serviceable landing strip for private planes. Arrangements may be made for transportation and security if you tie down. Other Things to NoteEven in the winter it is good to bring a swim suit. Grover Hot Springs State Park is just down the road. Or you can soak in our hot-tub. In house massage can be arranged.

The SpaceWoodfords is an area of Alpine County close to Hope Valley and south shore Lake Tahoe. It is the exact center of the four mountain passes, Carson, Luther, Ebbets and Monitor appreciated by road bike enthusiasts. XC skiing can be enjoyed at Hope Valley Outdoors and in many public undeveloped areas on the passes. Starlight Lodge is our home we share with guests. Kyle's Cabin is a craftsman style log cabin next door to Starlight Lodge which sleeps up to 6 guests. Guest AccessState parks, national forrests, rivers, streams, free disc golf and tennis courts 3 miles away. 15 minutes to Grover Hot Springs. 30 minutes to beaches at South Lake Tahoe. We both have lived in this unique and peaceful part of the Sierras not far from Lake Tahoe for over 36 years, and when we met 24 years ago and were searching for a piece of property on which to build our dream home, friends would ask us where our favorite location was. It was always Alpine County, and more specifically, a stretch of the West Fork of the Carson River which meanders through the famous old Ace Hereford Ranch. Miraculously, in 2001 a small 20-acre section of the ranch became available, complete with an old rambling Cliff May ranch house badly in need of repair. After purchasing our dream-come-true, concurrently with the restoration process, we began building a cottage near the main house for our retired parents. The property is resplendent with willow and wild rose thickets providing a protective home for quite literally hundreds of California Quail as well as the occasional Mt. Quail and elusive Chukkar. It wasn't long before the site became affectionally known as Quail Hollow. The cozy cottage was built in the Arts and Crafts style by local friends and craftsmen, utilizing green materials and local stone. The numerous windows in every room welcome the rising sun in the East and take full advantage of the awe-inspiring view of the Carson River and the stunning volcanic basalt cliffs beyond. The kitchen, living room, dining nook and reading nook are all part of a spacious yet comforting great room which invites conversation and comraderie. The sleeping areas are quiet and comforting, the patios soothing and restful. The local wildlife which may include bobcat, raccoon, beaver, wild turkeys and muskrat often saunter past the dining nook window, and of course the ever-present quail and hummingbirds appreciate an occasional handout, the former showing off their adorable families of tiny 'quailets' throughout the summer months. Bald and Golden Eagle soar overhead, Jays nest in the nearby pines and Cliff Swallows build their mud colonies on the cliffs. A peaceful presence can always be found here, whether the Autumn colors have begun to dazzle, a dusting of fresh snow is on the ground or when the summer-blooming lavender is ahum with bees, as the sounds of the city and the pressures of everyday life are left far behind. Come rest your spirit here, explore the area, paint a landscape, work on the story you started to write, bring several favorite books to read, and return home refreshed and rejuvenated.

Hello there, We're looking forward to having you spend your vacation with us in our Tahoe home. Our home is very relaxing and situated on a sunny mesa overlooking the Carson Valley and with a view toward the forested foothills and beyond to the Sierra Crest. Plenty of hiking, fishing, hot springs, skiing, casino, kayaking, and biking activities are nearby. To be honest we always come to the house with big plans and end up spending our time relaxing on the back porch or in the living room admiring the views, making a big meal in the huge kitchen with our friends and heading to bed early for a great, quiet night of sleep to recharge! There are plenty of details about the house below, but if you don't feel like reading, feel free to send us a note and we'll happily reply to answer any questions. I've been going to the Sierra for over 10 years now and am happy to share what I know about it. Our house is on a large 5 acre lot with lots of space to stretch out in and away from the congestion in South Lake Tahoe. We are 23 miles from Kirkwood Ski Resort, 21 miles from Heavenly Ski Resort's Stagecoach lift, and 9-13 miles from the Markleeville/Grover Hot Springs area & 26 miles from South Lake Tahoe. Our home is at 5400' elevation so you may feel the elevation a bit as well, especially if you go for a walk on Sunrise Trail. Trips to the eastern Sierra and Yosemite National Park are also possible as long day drives with the house as your base. Mike PS Also please note that the house has many amenities (cribs, high chairs, strollers, & changing tables for little ones included that may lighten your packing load for your visit. HOUSE AMENITIES We have a nice big flat lawn in the front and back of the house (sometimes it's green depending on our sprinkler system temperament :-)). There's a nice space to lounge/play outside as well as porches on the back and front of the house. This is a desert area and is very dry and windy. The house is also convenient for parents with a separate bunk bedroom with a TV and 3 high chairs, 1 full size crib, 1 mini crib, 2 bassinets, 1 infant swings, double and single stroller. WHAT TO DO/WHERE TO GO Please note the grocery stores/Walmart/Hardware Stores in Gardnerville (20-30 minutes away) are quite extensive (ex: we've bought silver noodles and crab legs there), so no need to truck stuff up there unless you want to or don't want to drive to the grocery stores. We have 3 different pairs of cross-country skis that anyone is welcome to use. The last sizable grocery store (Safeway) on the way up from the bay area is near Martell Rd. near Jackson. There is also a Lowe's and KMart in Martell as well. You will have even more selection if you drive 30 minutes to Carson City which has just about every store you could ask for. The house is out in the middle of nowhere, but that's part of what is great about it. Hope Valley is 15 minutes away and beautiful and a great place to start for level hikes. There is a hot springs above Markleeville with some nice short hikes as well. If you want something more adventurous I can recommend those as well and we have all our hiking books up there (Mt. Tallac and Desolation Wilderness are 2 classic hard Lake Tahoe hikes). The views are pretty nice even outside the house and the roads are very quiet so just a stroll outside on Sunrise Trail is rewarding. We are ~20 minutes from Caples Lake where they rent kayaks, Lake Tahoe is about 30 minutes, and Carson River is just across the road. There is a movie theater in the nearest town of Minden/Gardnerville about 25 minutes away. The Eastern Sierra is ridiculously beautiful and Mono Lake, Yosemite Tioga Pass entrance, Mammoth, Bridgeport, Bodie, Bear Valley, Sonora Pass are all doable as day trips from the house with 1-2 1/2 hours of driving 1-way. The fall colors in October can be striking with snow covering the mountain tops and yellow aspen trees. Northern Lake Tahoe resorts are 1-2 hrs. away. In Gardnerville, we can recommend Saletti's for a better meal and Woodett's Diner for a traditional diner breakfast. WEATHER During the winter it may get as cold as 0-10 degrees at night. Our house is at ~5400' elevation. We generally don't get pounded by 3+ feet of snow like Tahoe itself during the winter, but you may wake up to a 1 or 2 foot snowstorm during the bad storm weekends. Plowing of the roads is intermittent, but hopefully once the sun comes out you'll be able to drive the 500 feet to the main road and be fine. A local guy plows the roads when he can if the county doesn't get to it and a neighbor can plow the driveway if the snow gets particularly deep.

As valleys go, Hope Valley would be considered rather small, but without question, it is unrivaled in it's natural beauty. It sits at 7000 ft at the base of Luther Pass on Hwy 89 out of Meyers & South Lake Tahoe. Whether it is the quiet white of winter's freshly fallen snow blanketing the Valley floor, or the brilliant shades of yellow & burnt orange Aspen leaves when they change from the summers green in the fall, the beautiful & scenic Hope Valley is worth visiting any time of the year!! Our cabin sits just across the meadow from the famous Sorensen's Resort, where Hope Valley ends and where Woodford's Canyon begins. The west fork of the Carson River, after gently meandering its way across the valley floor, begins its descent into Woodford's Canyon on its way to the Carson Basin in Nevada. It is a beautiful and soothing freestone river that flows within a few feet of our cabin's deck. Our cabin has just been completely remodeled, and you will find it comfortable & cozy. It has a spacious redwood deck with a fantastic view of the river, the meadow across the river and the mountains beyond. It has a fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, satellite TV, gas BBQ and comfortable solid teak deck furniture to relax in & soak up the sights & take in the river sounds below you. The activities are endless; there are many hiking trailsheads nearby, for lake fishing there are a variety of lakes within a 30 minute drive, stream fishing only steps away, Kirkwood Meadows is 20 minutes from your door step, and if the sites and thrills of Lake Tahoe are calling you, it's only a 30 minute drive away. There are the small quaint communities including Woodfords & the historical town of Markleeville nearby which are an easy, scenic drive down Hwy 88 as it follows the Carson River. There is even an opportunity for indulging in some natural hot springs at the nearby Grover Hot Springs State Park. Come to relax, come to play, and come to be overwhelmed by the soothing and majestic beauty of Mother Nature's precious jewel...the Hope Valley!!
