The joy of Montserrat is to be found in peace, nature and retreat rather than standard caribbean mass-tourism, and on this Surf Sighed more than delivers. Perched on a hillside it looks over a large stretch of trees leading down to wide-ranging views of the Caribbean Sea. There are no dogs or building works nearby, very few neighbours, and the road is a cul-de-sac so it is extremely peaceful - all you hear is wildlife and waves.
Surf Sighed is a large, three-bedroomed villa with two additional sofa beds in communal living areas. The pool is large and deep, to cool off in throughout the day, and there is a path through the woods down to Woodlands Beach below.
The kitchen is spacious, well-equipped and has a lovely view. There are two large bedrooms (one en-suite and with its own balcony) and one smaller bedroom. There is a second bathroom between the second and third bedrooms. The en-suite bathroom has a tub with shower over it, and the second bathroom has a shower. Both bathrooms have recently been renovated.
The garden is beautifully maintained, with interesting tropical plants.
There are indoor and outdoor dining areas, a gas BBQ and indoor and outdoor relaxing areas. There is high-speed internet access and a small flatscreen TV with DVD players for both European and US region DVDs, plus a selection of DVDs to choose from. There are also board games and a selection of books available.
There is a washing machine and indoor and outdoor washing lines. There is also off-road parking (although not undercover).
Surf Sighed is not a luxury villa (nothing on Montserrat is luxury). It has little quirks, such as confusing light switches and doors that don't fit perfectly. To be honest the decor is also a little dated, even though we've done a lot of renovation. But we keep everything very clean, all the important things work, and the overall experience is, in our past guests' experience, fantastic.
Because it's not luxurious we price Surf Sighed very reasonably, and we do not believe that you can find another comparable villa for the same price elsewhere in the Caribbean. In fact, on Antigua you would pay the same price per room for a windowless, cockroach-infested room in a hostel (from our own, painful experience!)
Our aim is to open Surf Sighed up to a larger pool of travellers who may not otherwise be tempted to the Caribbean, to who home luxury beach tourism is unappealing, and who would appreciate the essence of Montserrat that is reflected in the villa - peace, quiet, stunning views, relaxation and eccentricity.
