The SpaceYour cozy, romantic and peaceful bedroom cottage is a recently designed and built private stand-alone studio cottage deep in the heart of the California coastal redwoods.
Note that the bathroom is not attached to the studio. It is a 40 foot walk to a private entrance to the main house which has a bonus room and full bathroom.
Ideally located in the San Francisco Bay Area, you are about an hour away from San Francisco, 30 minutes from Stanford University and Silicon Valley, 20 minutes from the stunning beauty of the California coast, and 1 hour from Santa Cruz, yet you are a million miles away from it all. The cottage has heated walnut floors, wood French doors, and windows with stunning views in nearly all directions. A new queen size platform bed with a variety of pillows ( including 2 down pillows, a cervical pillow and a foam pillow just in case you want a choice) awaits you. Artwork, all made by local artisans, adorns the walls. Wickedly Fast (50+ Mbps) and secure wifi is on the premises so that you are never too far from it all if you choose. (for those who want more specifics, recent download speeds are in the 40-60 Mbps range at the main house, and a bit slower at the studio)
Amenities in the studio include a new refrigerator/freezer stocked with bottled water, sparkling water, soft drinks and milk/cream for your coffee, a selection of yogurts, and choice of fresh juices . There is also a microwave and electric water kettle. For breakfast, the studio is stocked with a locally roasted Peet's coffee or awarded winning Blue Bottle Coffee (regular and decaf), with a French press or cone filters, a wide selection of Smith Brothers teas from Portland, premium hot cocoa, honey, fresh fruit, and the best darn cereal around, made in small batches in Berkeley. I've recently added an additional basket of snacks, which could include sun chip, potato chips, popcorn, and cookies. The selection changes regularly.
There is a small writing desk and chair if you wish to start writing the great American novel. Paper and pens are included for your inspiration!
Note the amenities that are not provided. There is no phone, stereo, or TV. There is a very hip bluetooth enabled clock radio though, with pretty decent sound and a USB jack in the back in case you need to change your fun electronic devices. There is a television in the bonus space in the main house. Cellular phone reception is best with ATT, but other services are operational as well. Viber and other apps work great with Wifi.
A separate full bathroom is accessible from your own private entrance to the main house. The bathroom and bonus room are accessible with a 40 foot walk across a redwood deck. The bathroom has a tiled shower tub combination. There are plenty of brand new amenities in the bath including items for your use in case you forgot. These include toothpaste, a toothbrush, shaving cream, razors, even lens solution for your contacts and commonly needed over the counter pain reliever after a long hike in the woods or a particularly strenuous day at the beach. And there are the random items elegant hotels offer, but are rarely used. Yup, you will find a shower caps, a mending kit, a shoe mitt just in case those hiking boots need an extra polish. Two complete sets of towels are provided to guests. The bonus room has a leather couch and wide screen Television with Apple TV and Netflix!
The private studio cottage is a well-designed, light filled 120 square feet. The bonus room and bath are a separate additional combined total of about 150 square feet. Guest AccessGuests have access to their stand-alone cottage which is set in the rear fenced gardens of a private home in the heart of the California coastal redwoods. The studio cottage has a separate bathroom and bonus room that is accessible with a 40 foot walk to a separate private entrance to the main house. There is an equivalent to two flights of stairs from your parking space to the front entrance of the cottage.
There is plenty of space to park, with a 100 foot driveway for your own use. The last mile of road as you arrive is narrow in places. RV's are not recommended. Anyone cycling up here will be rewarded with additional and well earned post ride energy bars. Interaction with GuestsYour host may be available and onsite during your stay. Feel free to ask advice for local highlights and things to do. Dining reservations, menus, or special requests may be available upon request. Local and regional trail and road maps are available. Arrangements can be made with the host to launder clothing for guests staying more than 3 nights. The NeighborhoodThe studio is in a very quiet location. There may be only a couple of cars per hour that drive though the neighborhood. There is even less traffic at night.
The neighborhood is surrounded by county parks including Tunitas Creek Open Space Preserve and Del Corda De Madera Open Space which are within walking distance. There is no traffic noise. Local restaurants include great dining and live music at Alice's Restaurant, and the Mountain House within a 10-15 minute drive. Menus are available in the studio cottage. The area is a mountain biking and hiking mecca, with miles of trails all to be accessed within less than 1-2 miles of your front door. The studio cottage is at 2100 foot in elevation. Winter storms can be dramatic to witness. The stunning, quiet and vast California ocean beaches are accessible with a 20 minute scenic drive through the woods.
This is a quiet, secluded destination.
One the most stunning drives along the California coast is only 20 minutes away. The scenic and beautiful San Mateo county coast is undeveloped with many secluded sandy beaches available for you to explore. Getting AroundParking is easy and onsite. Guests will need to walk up about 30 stairs to reach studio cottage. There are no public transportation services in the immediate area. San Francisco International airport is a 35 minute drive. Other Things to NoteNote that the bathroom is not attached to the studio. It is a 40 foot walk outdoors to a private entrance to the main house which has a bonus room and full bathroom. During the rainy season when there is rain and fog, the deck can be slippery. Exercise caution if deck is wet.
