The SpaceThe watchword is "peace" in this simple yet comfortable private home with an enormous sun-filled living room and eat-in kitchen, ample sleeping space, and full laundry facilities, all on the upper floor of this two-level house. This flexible space is equally suitable for a writing retreat or a mini family reunion. Guest AccessGuests are granted full and sole access to the upper floor of this home only, as described above. There are no shared amenities or access. Interaction with GuestsThe home is only available when not being used by the family, so interaction with your hosts is limited to internet and telephone. However, a family member is always reachable by phone or text. The NeighborhoodRich in history and natural beauty, Rappahannock County is home to a population of people who are fiercely proud of living in one of the most special spots in the U.S. Visit historic "Little Washington," surveyed by the young George himself--and be sure to make a dinner reservation at the famous 5-star (Forbes) Inn at Little Washington. Explore Civil War history in Manassas and Culpeper. Take in scenic Skyline Drive, hike the famous Old Rag Mountain, and top it off with a yoga class in Sperryville's lovely Stonewall Abbey. Catch a world-class concert at the Castleton Festival, artistic home of famed conductor Lorin Maazel. Shop the Rappahannock County Artisan Trail and Sperryville's River District Arts, or buy local meats from Heritage Hollow Farms or pick up boutique coffee along with a Sunday evening concert at Central Coffee Roasters. Farther afield, visit Thomas Jefferson's beloved home, Monticello (Charlottesville); James Madion's Montpelier (Orange), or George Washington's Mount Vernon (Alexandria)--or escape the summertime heat in the Luray Caverns. Set out for yourself, and you are certain to find even more to explore. The magic and beauty of this peaceful place will leave you rejuvenated, rested, and restored! Getting AroundIf you want to tour and sightsee, you will need a car. There is ample (free) parking. (Just be careful not to block someone else's car.) The house is an 80-minute drive from Dulles Airport. The quickest route is the most scenic: Details will be provided upon booking. Make sure you do your grocery shopping en route as the closest full service stores are in Culpeper which is a ~20 minute drive from the house. If you are traveling on #66 W, there is a Giant ~1.5 from exit #47. Other Things to NoteThis is a true off-the-grid getaway without internet access or big-screen t.v.--or, in fact, any t.v. or internet service at all. (If you want movies, bring them on your laptop!) This is a rustic country get-away (not even a microwave), and a chance to disconnect from electronic noise! There are multiple books, a few board games, and a gracefully aging upright piano. Be warned that Sperryville's cellphone service can be extremely spotty. Beds: 2 double beds, 1 double fold-out couch. The beds consist of mattresses on top of box springs. The bed in the front bedroom measures 12"from the floor and the one in the middle bedroom is 18" from the floor. Some guests have found it more comfortable to place the fold-out couch mattress on the floor, which is certainly an option. There is also a somewhat compromised fold-out foam couch (another double) in the living room which works well for kids.

Escape to the serenity of the Blue Ridge Mountains and experience the magic of Virginia country living at our entirely renovated, historic 2 bedroom farm house. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a special place to celebrate, or a week-end retreat, you've come to just the right place! Take advantage of all that nature has to offer by exploring our 130 acres of mountain forests, pastures, gardens, ponds, and historic structures. Watch the fireflies light up the starlit sky as you relax on the porch or on the magnificent covered dock. Hike our mountain trails. Swim, canoe, or fish in our fully stocked, 3 acre pond. Or roast marshmallows around the campfire and listen to nature's brilliant nighttime chorus! Experience the amazing beauty of the surrounding countryside by visiting Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, and 'Old Rag' Mountain only minutes away. Bike some of the most scenic country roads in the Mid-Atlantic region, visit award winning wineries, marvel at the Blue Ridge by horseback, and take home treasures from the many local art galleries and antique stores. If that isn't enough, expand your abilities with yoga lessons, art classes, and drumming circles. And, if relaxation is your primary goal, we will help you to arrange a massage, beauty treatment, or catering on the premises! Enjoy the wide range of local dining options, from country bakeries, quaint diners, and gourmet eateries featuring local produce and meat, to world class dining at the Inn at Little Washington only 10 minutes away. If you'd rather prepare your own meals, you can do it in your modern, fully equipped kitchen featuring granite countertops and new cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Dining options on the farm range from picnics in the woods to romantic, candle lit meals on the dock or screened porch with views of the pond and the Blue Ridge. In addition to a modern kitchen, our 1860's farmhouse features high speed Internet and new baths with whirlpool tub, pedestal sink, washer/dryer, and tiled floors and shower. Stone fireplaces and a wood stove add ambiance and warm you in winter, and ceiling fans in every room make the central air conditioning necessary only in the hottest days of summer. Lovely 19th Century wood floors grace the house throughout and historic, winding wood staircases lead to cozy but roomy bedrooms upstairs. Please note: The staircases are rather narrow and steep, and are unsuitable for individuals with mobility issues or who need bedroom and bath all on one level. The Farmhouse has 2 full suites, each with large eat-in kitchen, living area, screened porch, one large bedroom, and bath. The Pond View suite has a queen and twin bed, whirlpool tub and shower, and fireplaces up and downstairs, whereas the Mountain View side has a queen and double bed, large tiled shower, and wood stove downstairs. The Farmhouse is perfect for a family and for sharing with friends. An adjoining door between the two living areas may be left open or closed for privacy. One Farmhouse suite or our new Barn Loft are ideal for a couple. We rent one Farmhouse suite for $265/nt. only when the Barn Loft ($285/nt.) is unavailable. Our new, 2 bedroom upscale Barn Loft (VRBO #457779) has spectacular views of the Blue Ridge from every room. Entirely modern with glass front wood stove, slate and wood flooring, soapstone counters, and stainless appliances, this is a most special addition to our farm about an eighth of a mile from the farmhouse. Finally, if you would like to fully experience rural life, you are welcome to help us with the many projects that farm living offers, from gardening and caring for the animals to projects around our restored 1860s log barn. We will make every effort to customize your stay so that your experience is memorable! Friendly, well mannered pets that will not harm our farm animals are welcome. We are a non-smoking property.
