The SpaceWe think you'll love staying in our historic home, built in 1810. Although your space is part of our home, it will feel very private to you. As you enter the front door (you'll be the only one using this entrance), you'll head up to your bedroom, bathroom, and sitting room/bedroom. This space is securely separated from the other part of the second floor.
Each bedroom is 16' x 20', giving you plenty of room. There is also a flat screen TV in each room. Bedroom #1 has a queen sized Tempurpedic mattress. Bedroom #2 is furnished with a double bed (with traditional mattress), but also has a spacious sitting area. Here you'll find a work station to check your email, two comfortable wing chairs for watching TV/reading, and a small refrigerator.
Between the two bedrooms is the bathroom with tub/shower and plenty of linens, a hair dryer, and a bureau filled with most anything you may have forgotten. (Advil, Tums, razors, etc.). Each bedroom has its own doorway to the bathroom.
In addition, we have a Pack 'n Play available for babies and toddlers.
You are also welcome to use our beach chairs, beach towels, cooler, two bikes, and fishing equipment. For the kids, we have a stroller, booster seats, and plenty of toys.
Parking is available in our driveway. You will find Yarmouth is a very safe place to spend your time. In fact, the whole stay of Maine is very safe!
Do you still have some questions? Just let us know! Guest AccessFirst thing each morning, you will open your bedroom door to find a freshly brewed carafe of hot coffee or tea. Then we'll look forward to seeing you in our dining room for a complimentary freshly-prepared full breakfast available from 7:30 to 9:00 AM. Please be advised that we are not able to prepare meals for those with special diets (gluten free, dairy allergies) but if you bring some alternative foods with you, we would be glad to store them and serve them to you in the morning. Or we can modify our menu. (just not our recipes!)
You are welcome to poke around our gardens and sit out on our sunny patio. Or spend the end of the day sitting out front in our Adirondack chairs, sipping a refreshment and watching the world go by.
Our kitchen and living areas are primarily used by us, but it doesn't mean you can't pop in to ask questions, refill water and get ice, etc.
We also own a mail order cookie company and produce the cookies right here on the premises. So if you wake up one morning to the aroma of chocolate chip cookies, it's not your imagination. Speaking of cookies, guess what you'll find on your nightstand when you arrive? Interaction with GuestsWe are both pretty social people, so we're happy to answer questions to just about anything Maine related: beaches, lighthouses, sea glass, cruises, fishing, restaurants, shopping. And learn a bit about you, where you're from and what brings you to Maine. However, we also respect your privacy and know when to give you some space. If you have no questions, that's OK, too! The NeighborhoodRight here on Main Street, all within one block to 1/2 mile, you can walk to the best pizza in Southern Maine, a great bakery, wine bar, farm-to-table restaurant, coffee shops, and a spot to pick up soups and sandwiches. In addition, we have a handful of small shops to explore.
Take a half hour to walk the sidewalk lined streets, taking in the character and charm of all the 100-200 year old homes in the neighborhood.
Around the corner from us, you'll find the Royal River Park with its 1-mile paved walkway. It's great for a walk, a run, or a bike ride. (We have two bikes for your use.)
Just outside the park entrance, there are canoes available for rent for just $10 a day. No transporting necessary. Just put it in the calm waters and enjoy a quiet paddle up the Royal River.
Within a five minute drive, you can check out several excellent restaurants here in Yarmouth. And remember, here in Maine, it's all casual dress.
Portland, the largest city in northern New England, is a fifteen minute drive south. And Freeport, home of LL Bean and a vast array of discount shops, is five miles up the road.
Fabulous beaches line our coast, our favorite being Ogunquit Beach, 50 minutes south. But you can find several nice beaches within a 15-25 minute drive. Getting AroundWe are located 20 minutes from the Portland Jetport, and just five minutes off Route 295. There is taxi service and Uber available. The Amtrak station and bus station (serving Boston and NYC) is in Portland, 15 minutes away. Boston is two hours south. Other Things to NoteYarmouth is a small community (pop. 8000) conveniently located ten miles north of Portland. While we have a few restaurants, shops, and parks here in town, you will find more of the attractions (city life, beaches, shopping, lighthouses, etc.) a 10 to 30 minute drive away.
Our home is located directly on Main Street in the village of Yarmouth. It's pretty quiet by city standards, but you should be prepared for the sound of some street traffic. For that reason, we have provided a sound machine in your room, although we have lived here for 35 years and never used one.
Upon receipt of your reservation, we will email you a Welcome Guide that contains more details on your stay with us, as well as an extensive list of our favorite places to eat, things to do, and sights to see.
