Mt Rainier is a 45 mile drive and a fun day trip Sea Tac Airport is 1 hr 10 minutes away Seattle is a 1.5 hours drive or you can take the train and get there in 1 hour and 10 minutes Other Things to NoteLocation: I live about 7 miles from Yelm. As there are no restaurants or shopping within walking distance, I recommend that you stop by the local Safeway in Yelm or Lacey prior to coming to my home to pick up food and snacks. I will provide Tea, Coffee and fresh well water. You are about 20 minutes to the Lacey Amtrak Station and about 45 miles to Mt Rainier. Sea Tac airport is about an hour 10 minutes away. Seattle is 1.5 hours and Portland a 2 hour drive. Restaurants: There are some good local restaurants in town. I recommend the La Gitana which has fresh organic fare and pizza, salads, wine and Italian. It is across across the street from Gordens and I have included the website: (URL HIDDEN) We also have a great new organic restaurant called Bellas Organic Gourmet;“(URL HIDDEN) to Gourmet” and I have included the link: Yelm also has a Starbucks and the usual fast food places to eat. I also have a mature Cairn Terrier who is friendly that you may see from time to time. I am not particularly interested in rooming a dog. However there is a wonderful kennel about 5 miles away which offers doggie day care for $10 per day and rooming for $20per night. I have a water softener that you may hear running from time to time, please let me know if it is a problem. Equestrians: My place is 7 minutes (4.2 miles) from Aspen Farms Eventing which is the, home of the first advanced level events for Equestrians in the Pacific Northwest so it is a great place to stay if you plan to participate or attend the events. . Please note that I do not have facilities to house horses, however you can keep them at nearby Aspen Farm. Here is the link: (URL HIDDEN) I have a Septic System: Here are the Septic System Do's and Don'ts: Don’t flush grease, oil down the sink or toilet Don’t rinse coffee grounds into the sink Don’t pour household chemicals down the sink or flush them Don’t flush feminine hygiene products, condoms, dental floss, diapers, cigarette butts, paper towels, pharmaceuticals Don’t concentrate the septic use by taking a shower, using the dishwasher, washing cloths and using the toilet at the same time

The SpaceHere's your chance to experience the quiet and beauty of a straw bale home. Guest Access20 acre forest Permaculture gardens Large campfire pit Barbecue Hot tub Organic meals provided for additional fee. Interaction with GuestsWe will be sharing the same space, so I am happy to be friendly or quiet as each guest desires. I am also happy to prepare meals (for a small additional fee) if that is required. The NeighborhoodThis gated community is a forest/agriculture area near Mt. Rainier. It is beautiful, peaceful and quiet. The park like setting with all the comforts of the unique straw bale home will set your mind at ease and your spirit free. A partial list of surrounding attractions: Mt. Rainier National Park Northwest Trek Animal Park and Zip Line Nisqually Wildlife Refuge Harts Lake fishing Pack Forest Olympia Farmers Market Wolf Haven Chihully Glass Museum, Tacoma Tacoma Art Museum Point Defiance Zoo and Park Washington State Capitol Downtown Olympia Getting AroundWell, you can't have everything. There is no public transportation available. However, if you require, I am willing to pick you up from the bus or train station in either Tacoma or Olympia. If you really want to get crazy, I'll even act as tour guide to some of the beauties that abound in this area. Other Things to NoteWe are about 35 miles from Mt. Rainier, 35 miles from Olympia, 30 miles from downtown Tacoma, 50 miles from SeaTac Airport and 60 miles from Seattle. Yet, you'll feel like you are much farther into the wild. One of the few good/bad things about the location is the nearness to Joint Base Lewis McChord. There are a few days every couple of months when you can hear weapons detonating. It's not usually very much or very loud, but it does happen. It is our reminder to pray for peace, please.

The SpaceOur home is nestled in nature and is part Hobbit House, Beamed Cottage and Hill Top Retreat. The guestroom has a luxuriously appointed Queen size bed with down comforters, a charming window overlooking the forest, a beamed wood panel ceiling and old fashioned wood flooring... and you can see the sun rise over Mt. Rainier from your bed! There is a generous amount of wardrobe and drawer space available for your convenience. Wifi is available in the entire house. The bedroom is on the second floor and the guest bathroom on the ground floor. The bathroom has Old World charm with Tuscan plaster and log walls, old fashioned porcelain sink and toilet and a stone tiled shower. There is a rustic outdoor dining area on a covered porch as well as various recliners and a large sun umbrella on the back deck for reading, lounging and relaxing... your are on top of the hill, in the middle of nature with a view of trees and Mount Rainier in the background. Enjoy and Relax! Guest AccessMost of the immediate area around our house is beautifully landscaped with gravel roads, walkways and steps. If you venture further from the house you will find old logging roads and overgrown pathways that are best explored with hiking boots. Also, please ask before heading out so that we can point out the boundaries. Interaction with GuestsWe are pretty much always home and happy to help with tips and information to make your stay with us as comfortable and memorable as possible. Please bear in mind that we are also very busy people and usually have a lot to do during the day. Communication goes a long way... just tell us what you need and we will gladly help if we can ;-) In your guestroom you will find information regarding local coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, markets, destinations and recommendations. The NeighborhoodThe word Neighborhood hardly applies to our place - you don't see any neighboring houses from our property. Even though we are nestled into nature we have the best of both worlds: seclusion as well as quick access to just about anything you may desire. A cute coffee shop and breakfast place, convenience store and gas station are just 3 min away and there are quite a few unique restaurants, stores and supermarkets within 10 min drive. Olympia is only 30 min away and offers a beautiful farmers market, galleries, fine dining and a marina with a gorgeous boardwalk. Our home is located near a network of 35 miles of paved trails for hiking and biking. There are many opportunities for swimming, fishing, bird watching, boat rentals, river rafting and sightseeing within a half hour drive. Getting AroundWe are accessible by car only - there is no public transport here. The driving time from SeaTac airport and Portland airport is about 1:15 hours. Other Things to NoteOur property is rural. That means when it's dark - it's dark! Let us know what time you will be arriving so that we can leave the lights on for you. Also, our land has gravel driveways, hilly terrain and even though the immediate area around our house is landscaped there are large portions of our property that are natural forest with sticks and stones and brambles. We share this space with lots of animals: deer, rabbits and squirrels, nesting birds, hawks, owls and eagles, bats, humming birds and bees are all a common sight on our property. (We have bee hives - the bees are docile and far away from the house). Currently we don't have any dogs but that may change again ;-) Even though our home is off the grid and our power is generated with solar panels you will find all standard modern conveniences (electric light, power plugs, internet etc.). We live and work in in our home and you are welcome to see what we do: a portion of our house is a home office dedicated to our hand made artisan yarn and fiber products (l(URL HIDDEN) If this is of interest to you we will gladly "spin you a yarn"! Ach ja, und wir sprechen deutsch ;-)

The SpaceI built a floor and one wall with a door. Added a vinyl carport and furnished this little cabin. It sits back in the forest with all the birds and critters. Like camping out only clean and dry with two cozy twin beds, table and chairs, and a tea kettle and toaster oven. Guest AccessDuring you stay you are welcome to wander about the forest, in the permaculture garden or yard. Have a soak in the hot tub or sit by the fire in the garden. Sip tea on the porch of the main house and watch the birds at their Arbor Cafe. Interaction with GuestsWe will always be available to greet you and help you get settled in. After that it's up to you if you want to socialize with hosts or other guests in the house or garden. If you need anything during your stay, you are just a short walk away from the main house. The NeighborhoodThis secluded little spot is tucked away at the edge of the forest. Only 37 miles from Mt. Rainier National Park, you can catch glimpses of this stunning beauty. You may see deer or elk as they browse the forest and garden. You'll hear bird song and the wind as it dances through the trees. In spring you will be immersed in the froggy chorus. The surrounding area offers so many enticements. Here's a list of just a few: Mt. Rainier National Park Northwest Trek Animal Park and Zip Line Nisqually Wildlife Refuge Harts Lake fishing Pack Forest Olympia Farmers Market Wolf Haven Chihully Glass Museum, Tacoma Tacoma Art Museum Point Defiance Zoo and Park Washington State Capitol Downtown Olympia Getting AroundBecause we are fairly remote, you won't find any public transportation available any closer than Yelm, which is over ten miles distant. The SpaceIf you are anticipating a Hilton you will be disappointed but if you value nature more than a "5th Ave. " environment, you will be pleased. You can take a short walk on our trail through the woods from your large "cabin" to the pristine Nisqually River. There you can make a small fire and relax in chairs as you watch the river flow by and the birds as they choose to visit. Today we watched four river otters playing. Since you can not force wildlife to show up "on cue" you never know just what you will see. Early morning or dusk is the best show. If you do a tube search for SUE MCGOWAN GOATS you can watch my goats playing at the river. Guest AccessYou will have the entire 950 square feet of living space to yourselves. There is a kitchen with a two burner cook surface (no oven), a 18 cu. ft. refrigerator (bottom drawers currently housing potatoes from our garden), Keurig coffee maker with regular and decaf pods, microwave, toaster, basic dishes, dining room , large living room ,two bedrooms one with 2 twins and the other with one twin, lots of closet space, one bathroom (with a really ugly tub/shower but it is functional) , and lots of nature. Fire pit near the cabin as well as a safe place for fire at the river. IMPORTANT TO NOTE YOUR CELL and Wifi MOST LIKELY WILL NOT WORK AT THE "cabin" but will do just fine at our gazebo which is a 40 second walk away. Interaction with GuestsWe love to help people and will be available, but will not hover over you. You will be responsible for your own meals unless I happen to have the day off of work (I'm a Registered Nurse) and happen to be cooking anyhow. The NeighborhoodYou are outside of Yelm where it is peaceful and MT RAINIER is beautiful beyond measure. Mt RainierPark entrance is approx. 45 minutes from here. NISQUALLY WILDLIFE ESTUARY REFUGE is approx 30 minutes away. You have miles to explore right around the cabin. There is an excellent movie theatre in town as well as restaurants and shopping to meet your needs. About 23 minutes away, the RED WIND CASINO offers excellent dining options. Getting AroundYou have to have your own car as there is no public transportation out here in the "boonies". Other Things to NoteWhen you book, we will send you specific directions. 95%of the time your GPS will work perfectly to get you here, but I don't want to take that chance. You will NOT have good cell coverage the last few miles of your trip or the "cabin", but you can access Wi-Fi and our phones in our home which is a 1 minute walk from the cabin.

The SpaceThe space is located outside of the city, away from the chaos of I-5. It provides a relaxing touch while providing the basic amenities and more. Please note that the place is a bit tricky to find, so feel free to call with any questions beforehand. Guest AccessGuests are allowed in the kitchen, media/theater room, living room, laundry room, patio, and pond. The garage is well equipped with tools to perform basic vehicle maintenance as well as car detailing. It is open for guest use, if there any any questions, feel free to ask. We are more than happy to assist! We also have a fully functional office, feel free to utilize the space. The NeighborhoodThe area is a fairly new establishment. My house is the last house that was built on the area development. Overall a friendly, secluded, and quiet neighborhood. Getting AroundThere is ample room to accommodate multiple vehicles. Other Things to NoteThe bathroom is private and separate from the rooms. However, I have another available room, should another guest occupy the room, the bathroom will turn into a shared bathroom. Additionally, there is a restroom* located downstairs to help alleviate any congestion. We have two large, friendly dogs, that are well behaved. If you are not comfortable with animals, please let us know and we can separate them. Since we are a dog friendly household, we may have additional animals should guests bring any. We also have a 1 year old baby girl, generally she is very happy and expressive. However, there are times where she does cry in the middle of the night, but they are far and few. She is a baby and they can be unpredictable. Please take off shoes upon entering the house.
