Usually there are kids playing outside, students in their uniform walking to and from school, and concrete houses on small windy streets. We are in walking distance to an amazing sushi restaurant and an AEON town that includes: grocery store, electronic store, video rental, bakery, cafe, Daiso (100 yen store), Starbucks, arcade, shops, and restaurants. Just beyond that is Toguchi beach which is a beautiful park/beach to have a picnic and watch the sunset.
American Village, a popular shopping area, is an easy 15 minute drive from our house. The Mihama American Village is a large entertainment complex located in central Okinawa. Many American military bases are located in the area, and the entert ainment complex' theme of Americana provides a nostalgic pleasure for residents of the bases as well as an interesting diversion for the locals. The Mihama American Village resembles a big American shopping mall with lots of shops, restaurants, cafes and a large parking lot.
The most recognizable feature of the American Village is the large Ferris Wheel. The Americana theme is found at many establishments, such as fashion shops selling American brand clothing or restaurants specializing in hot dogs and hamburgers. American and Japanese movies are shown at the Mihama 7 Plex movie theater. Just a few steps away along the waterfront is Sunset Beach. Facing westward, the beach is a good place to catch the sunset and is a popular spot for barbecues.
American village is where the Bath House is. Getting AroundFor traveling around Okinawa, we suggest you travel by car, bus, or taxi. There are no trains or mass transit systems here on the island (outside of downtown Naha). The nearest bus stop is about a 10 minute walk. The Pirate Ship Van is available for tours of the island.
