The SpaceBest color season is here! USA Today, Travel+Leisure, TripAdvisor etc also recently named this area as one of the top 10 brightest fall foliage & romantic destinations. A one (two) bedroom suite on the ground floor of the owners' main house, located on top of the 30+ ac private property and backing the ridge-top of the mountain and hundreds of acres of wild forests. Yet it is only 1.5 mi of HWY 25 near the NC/SC boundary/the Continental Divide. The suite is fully furnished. The main bedroom has a queen-size bed, and within this main bedroom another room can be used for quiet reading or additional sleeping space if needed (with a queen-size sofa). This main bedroom has a new queen-size bed set with Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress. A separate room can be used as a living room or bed room: it has a queen-size Futon - pull out as a bed, a 40-in LED Smart TV with wireless internet access (netflix etc), DVD movies & National Geographic Magazine videos and internet streaming, but there is NO traditional cable and satellite TV programs. The suite has a dinning area and is equipped with light cooking wares (a full-size outdoor grill, a small cooking-top, a 1.2 cubic ft microwave oven with broil heating element, a slow cooker), a refrigerator, and dinning utensils. The suite has a large-sized bathroom with a full-size bathtub & shower. Walking outside the suite is a covered patio equipped with outdoor living furniture (please see the pictures). Cell phone signal is available for AT&T users, but for other users your carriers' signal may be weak or no signals in this mountain top area; however an AT&T cell phone is provided for our guests, as well as WiFi wireless network. Guests need to have a reliable car to drive up to the mountain top through the 0.5-mi well-paved but winding driveway. Daylight check-in is required as the driveway is not lighted and there are some sharp switch-backs. Guest AccessGuests can use the owners' Landry & Dryer machines for longer stays or in accidental situations. Guests are free to explore the 30+ ac wooded land, but as usual at their own risks, in particular for this property as it is largely a naturally wild area. Bears and deer are common in this mountain region, but the owners only see them a couple of times a year. Interaction with GuestsThe owner likes to explore around this beautiful mountain area (including hiking), and is willing to provide useful info to the guests when needed. The guests can have their privacy as they desire. The NeighborhoodIf you plan to visit the Biltmore Estate, I can get you discounted tickets (saving about $10 each ticket). The property is located near the North Carolina/South Carolina Continental Divide area that features many NC/SC State Parks as well National Forest Parks (see below list). Traffic is very light in this area, providing pleasant biking experience, particularly in the cooler Fall weather and scenic views. The SpaceThis warm and woodsy Lake Summit house is tucked away above a quiet cove just off the main body of the lake. Lake Summit is located midway between Flat Rock, Saluda, and Tuxedo, North Carolina, in a very magical setting. We love our quiet cove; the main lake body is 300 feet to our left and we have a private 6-acre cove encircled by forests and in a no-wake zone so we can swim and sun without the boat noise and interruption of the general lake. As you walk into the main house, you see through the house to the lake. The kitchen, which is conveniently to the right off the parking area, spills into a huge (26 by 30) living room with beams and cathedral ceiling with floor to ceiling glass wall overlooking the mountains and the lake. The living room opens onto an even more huge (1500 square feet) deck through a 16 ft wide by 8 ft tall sliding glass door. And from the deck one is looking over the boathouse a short 50 feet away. Upstairs in the main house are three bedrooms and two baths, both with shower/tub combos. Two of the bedrooms look over the lake and mountains, and have private doors onto decks. The 700 square foot living room with cathedral ceiling has a huge stone fireplace, and a large fully modern kitchen with all the appliances you need including the best quiet super easy Bosch dishwasher. The large screen TV is over the mantle with stereo and speakers inside and outside on the decks. Downstairs is another huge stone fireplace, full bath, and a great room with large screen TV, surround sound, ping pong, foosball and another large porch. There is a pull out queen sofa bed and a single day bed that are comfy in front of the stone fireplace. The boathouse is a two slip boathouse (largest boat slip is 8 feet by 24 feet) with an upper sun deck (est. 25 feet by 30 feet), a jump off platform on top, plenty of fishing and sunning decks, two lock-up closets, and a separate swimming and sunning deck. There is ample boat parking. Onsite are two paddleboards, a canoe, lounge floats and plenty of dock furniture for your use. **Boat Rentals may be arranged; the earlier the better! ** Note: Booking the house is first-paid, first-booked. The SpaceWe’re farther from Asheville than city centric visitors may prefer (45 minutes) but our 2 bdrm, 2 bath cottage is steeped in what this unique area is all about - which is more than city streets. As anyone who knows will tell you, the Asheville effect extends for miles in many directions. Our dual-home refuge is great for nature lovers and the forest friendly. Bike riders find our location really convenient, along with active families, couples and those simply inclined to quietude. On days when you'd like to stay close, we’ve got walking trails and sitting spaces further from the house than you might expect. You really wouldn't have to leave to immerse yourself in nature. We've also got maps and brochures and advice about area destinations in Hendersonville, Flat Rock, Brevard and Lake Lure. Dupont State Forest, famous for waterfalls, is just 5 miles away. A great hiking and mountain bike destination! Your 800 sq ft cottage adjoins our main house, and It’s cozy when there's sleeping for 6, or really roomy for just 1 or 2. Additional daily fees of $25-50 per day are applied when your group is more than 4 people. The additional sleep space for these 2 would be on the pull-out sofa bed. The kitchen’s fully equipped and there’s wi-fi and HBO/satellite TV, and a deck with an outdoor gas grill. Plus you’ll have access to a dry sauna, and a massage table, plus a washer/dryer if it's needed. Month to month, week to week, or 3 night minimum stay. Your hosts in the adjoining house, connected by a greenhouse, are happy to guide you toward explorations or give you complete privacy. . Guest Access- shared washer/dryer - shared sauna/greenhouse - massage table in entrance closet -walking paths and outdoor benches Interaction with GuestsAs we are generally on premise, we like to welcome people when they arrive and wish them well as they leave; When we're available we're happy to answer any questions or suggestions as they may require. The Neighborhood- Our neighborhood is more densely populated with birds and other wildlife than people, but we've got at least 12 summer camps within 10 miles of us. Getting AroundNo public transit here, and Prius and other low carriage vehicles are not as comfortable coming up our road as they are in the city ... The SpaceThis authentic local cabin was built by craftsmen in 1940 and features hardwood floors, walls, and cabinetry; a stone fireplace; porch with rocking chairs; and local antique furnishings. It accommodates two adults in a double, two single beds in a childrens' room, and a pull-out sofabed. There is no television, no radio, no interruptions. There are lake views from the porch, and lake access is via a stone path that meanders through the trees to a lakeside cabana and dock, approx. 50 yards away. Boats can be accommodated with a permit. More pics available on YouTube. Search for "Lake Summit's Little Sorrento." Available from May 1 - Oct 31. Guest AccessThe house, cabana, dock, lake and surrounding trails. The NeighborhoodThe lake is bordered by small older towns (Saluda, Flat Rock, Tuxedo, and others) that have not succumbed to unrestrained strip mall development mentality and retain their historic, local flavor. The lake sits in close proximity to Asheville, one of the most charming small cities in America with great restaurants, microbrews, and art galleries. Getting AroundA mountain bike offers a great way to navigate the lake or you can run a half marathon and jump in the always chilly, crystal clear water afterwards or just swim up to the railroad trestle and back or combine the three for a nice half ironman training session. Our property is a place to use your legs or your fishing pole. Boat permits are available, and we have a dock. However, you will need to apply for a permit one month in advance and proof of insurance is required. Contact the Lake Summit Property Owners' Association. Other Things to NoteWe do not keep personal care products (e.g., shampoo) or appliances (e.g., blowdryer) on hand - so please bring your own. The driveway is steep and has a gravel surface that is slippery and challenging to maintain. Please consider parking at the top of the drive.

Both have hiking trails and are tied to the SC Supertrail system. Whatever your skill level is, you will find these hidden gems inspiring. Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee are 40 minutes to the west.
