The 5 Top Places to Visit in England

← Back to ‘Discover the Best Things to Do, Everywhere’

The UK might only be a small island — but it really packs a punch. It’s easy (and quick) to travel around the country so you can get a real flavor of what England has to offer, from traditional English beaches through to medieval towns. We’ve selected the 5 top places to visit in the UK.

1. Brighton Beach

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside. Just like the famous British song by Mark Sheridan made in 1907, people in the UK love to make a day trip to the seaside. The coastal town of Brighton is only one hour by train from London. Brighton beach is a large-pebble-stone beach, with a grand Victorian boardwalk and a traditional pier with arcade games and rollercoasters. Charming colorful houses line the streets and seagulls swarm in the air.

Pro tip: Grab some ‘fish and chips’ on the beach and watch the sunset.

2. The Cotswolds

If you’re looking for a quintessentially British experience, you have to visit the Cotswolds. The area, in the center of England, is full of tiny, medieval villages, with charming thatched cottages and winding lanes. The Cotswolds is full of green rolling hills, wheat fields, and woodlands. It’s best visited by car, so you can really get off-the-beaten-track and explore the villages and hills.

Pro tip: Be sure to stop for a ‘cream tea’ (a scone with clotted cream and jam) in one of the villages.

3. Durdle Door

Durdle Door is a stunning, natural limestone archway near to Lulworth, on the South West Coast. The geology of the archway suggests it was created by a crash of a tectonic plate millions of years ago. The beach beside the archway is secluded and it’s the perfect place to relax and gaze in awe at mother nature. You can take a walk along the coastline for several miles on the Durdle Door and White Nothe Circular route, which is sign-posted.

Pro tip: take your camera and photograph the starry night sky, the area is known for its brilliantly clear skies.

4. Roman Baths

Take a trip to the historic city of Bath, in the West of England, where you can find traditional baths carved by the Romans, which are still in good condition today. The area of Bath is known for its natural hot springs, which are said to help rejuvenate health and prolong life. Check out ticket prices and information for visiting the Roman Baths. After you’ve relaxed in the hot springs, you can take a walk around the city of Bath. With beautiful, medieval buildings and perfect crescent shaped streets, it’s easy to imagine you are taking a walk through the 14th century.

Pro tip: Visit the Roman Baths at night by torch-light for an extra-special experience.

5. London

No trip to the UK would be complete without visiting the UK’s capital city. London is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world. With a completely multicultural community and a city full of centuries of history, there is so much to see and do. Spend time visiting the main tourist attractions to get a glimpse into London’s past, such as the Tower of London, Big Ben, and the London Eye. Also make sure you save time to see some of the city’s neighborhoods, such as hipster East London, high-end West London and gritty North London.

Pro tip: Visit Borough Market, which is full of amazing street food eats.
