7 Useful Tips for San Francisco Gay Pride

← Back to ‘Top 10 Most LGBT Friendly Vacation Destinations’

San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade will take place on June 24-25, 2017. This pioneering event brings over one million people to the streets of San Francisco to celebrate gay rights and honor the LGBT community with live performances, parties, speakers, demonstrations and marches.

Here are our top tips for getting the full SF Pride experience.

1. Find a good spot to view the parade

The best place to view the parade is along the route on Market St. Although you’ll have to arrive pretty early (we’re talking 6 or 7 am) to snag a spot near along the barriers. Otherwise, you can secure a reserved spot in the Grandstand Seating along the parade route if you purchase a Grandstand Seating Pass.

2. Check out SF Pride’s official events

The demonstrations and parade for SF Pride are free to attend, but some of the official SF Pride events require tickets, like the catered VIP party inside City Hall.

3. Bring your family along

On Sunday, the Family Garden Area provides a safe, less-crowded zone for families with small children to enjoy the parade.

4. Run for the cause

San Francisco Front Runners will host their 38th Annual Pride Run on Saturday morning in Golden Gate Park. Join in on the fun.

5. Practice inclusive celebrating

SF Pride weekend has so many affiliated events before, during or after the official celebration. The Trans March will take place in Dolores Park on Friday, June 23rd, while the Dyke March will run concurrently with Pride on Saturday evening.

6. Continue the party in the Castro

If you’re still craving some excitement after Pride has ended, continue the celebration in SF’s famous Castro district–the unofficial gay pride neighborhood of San Francisco. Expect crowds and long lines, but the party scene will be well worth it.

7. Explore the city

San Francisco is dense with historic sites, gorgeous viewpoints, Michelin-star restaurants, and enchanting neighborhoods. Take a break from the party and explore everything this city has to offer.
