Southeast Asia is a popular destination to visit for people from all over the world. Digital nomads, yoga enthusiasts, and travelers of all sorts enjoy the perks of the southeastern region’s many world-renowned locations. You will also find many popular photography destinations in Southeast Asia. In this article, we’ll be covering 9 places that you can take beautiful photos in the region.

1. Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and the second largest city (by population) in the country. Hanoi sits on the right bank of the Red River and is known for its beautiful architecture and temples.

2. Prambanan, Indonesia

Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound in Central Java, Indonesia. The temples feature intricate Hindu architecture and tower over 47 meters (154+ feet). Prambanan is dedicated to the Trimurti, the expression of God as the Creator, the Preserver, and the Transformer. The temples and compound are popular for photos. At Prambanan, also called Rara Jonggrang, you can find many complex temple constructions and reliefs depicting significant Hindu narratives.

3. Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai is full of outdoor adventures and fun activities. There are plenty of brilliant opportunities for gorgeous photos in the tropical rainforests, up on the tall mountains, and in the hill-tribe villages of rural Thailand.

You can also find many elaborate Buddhist temples throughout Chiang Mai including the 14th-century Wat Phra Singh and 15th-century Wat Chedi Luang.

Siem Reap is the entrance to the ruins of Angkor. It is a popular resort town in Cambodia that features intricate stone buildings and temples with giant mysterious faces carved into the side.

Siem Reap is a popular tourist and photography destination. From the Angkor Archaeological Park to the silk farms in the lush countryside, there is a lot to see and do in Siem Reap making for some excellent photo opportunities.

5. El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

Known for the stunning white-sand beaches, steep cliffs, and gorgeous island compositions, El Nido is an incredible photo destination on the Philippine island Palawan.

The area has many unique dive sites, hiking/exploring opportunities, and so much to offer. Take in the fantastic views and discover why so many people visit El Nido, Palawan.

6. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City is located in southern Vietnam and is famous for its colonial landmarks and unique architecture. Commonly known as Saigon, the city is full of life with fast-moving mopeds, busy markets, and food stalls everywhere!

If you are a street photographer and enjoy documenting everyday life, Ho Chi Minh City is a must visit. The Bến Thành Market is where you can find the largest, most active marketplace.

7. Bagan, Myanmar

Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. Bagan is home to the Bagan Archaeological Area. There you can find more than 2,000 Buddhist monuments and monasteries. The temples and pagodas dot a beautiful green landscape with excellent views.

The archaeological zone is over 26 square miles giving you plenty of room to explore and see all the historical Buddhist sites.

8. Bali, Indonesia

Arguably one of the most popular places in Southeast Asia, Bali is an Indonesian island known for its beautiful scenery. On the island you will find volcanic mountains covered in forests,  tropical beaches with coral reefs, and rice fields like the Tegallalang Rice Terrace.

Need a quick break from taking photos? Bali is known for yoga and meditation retreats so it’s a great place to relax and reflect on your travels.

9. Luang Prabang, Laos

Luang Prabang is the ancient capital of the Luang Prabang Province in northern Laos. Luang Prabang is located in a valley where the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers meet.

In the capital, you can find many beautiful Buddhist temples and epic views of city life. You can also visit the lively streets and food markets throughout the city to see what life is like in Luang Prabang.
