Amsterdam Gay Pride 2019 Guide

← Back to ‘Top 10 Most LGBT Friendly Vacation Destinations’

A city-wide gathering held every August, Amsterdam Gay Pride is a celebration of diversity with an emphasis on the LGBT community. Best known for the canal parade in which themed boats sail through the city’s canals and crowds form along the water, Amsterdam Gay Pride is one of the largest events of its kind in Europe and, in tune with the culture of its host city, it’s one major party.

Amsterdam Gay Pride Dates and Location

Amsterdam Gay Pride is held across the city of Amsterdam, The Netherlands from July 27th to August 4th, 2019.

Getting To and From Amsterdam Gay Pride

Air

Amsterdam International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and serves as a destination for over 100 airlines. Just twelve miles outside the city, it’s a quick commute.

Bus

Airport express buses take passengers into the city in just 30 minutes. A “Connexxion” round-trip ticket is $11. But don’t lose your ticket for the return trip!

Car

Taxis and Ubers can get you to the city center in 30 minutes.

Bike

Within the festival, check out MacBike for bike rental options in the city. Having a bike can make a big difference when navigating crowds and moving from event to event.

Public Transportation

GVB (Amsterdam’s transit system) runs the metro, trams, and buses throughout the city. Temporary passes can be purchased ahead of time and can be valid for up to seven days. The cheapest and best way to get there is the direct railway line that departs from platforms 1 and 2, which leaves every 15 minutes and costs about $10.80.

Where to Stay for Amsterdam Gay Pride

Staying in the city’s center is your best bet as it puts you within striking distance of the main events. However, the center is expensive. Look for options across the water or further from the center if your budget isn’t quite as flexible.

Hotel

If luxury accommodations are a must, the five-star Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam is located smack in the city’s center and would be an extremely comfortable place to crash after a day (or night) of partying. Rooms start at $546 per night. For some more wallet-friendly options, check out Cheap Amsterdam Hotels Under $75/night.

Airbnb

This two bedroom Airbnb is located in the city’s center and offers a more spacious and homey alternative to the hotel scene. This is a great option for a small group of friends attending the event. Booking price is $520 per night.

Hostel

If you’re looking for cheaper options, consider these 6 Cheap Hostels in Amsterdam. Here we’ve compiled a great collection of comfortable budget hostels that are in great locations. Use the money you save on accommodations on fun activities throughout the festival.
