Want to hit-up some amusement parks in Maryland but aren’t sure what’s your best option? Maryland is home to tons of amusements parks offering fun for all the family. From adrenaline-inducing rollercoasters through to retro carousels, giant Ferris wheels, and wild water parks where you can cool down in the summer, there’s something for everyone. And if thrilling rollercoasters are still too mild for you, Maryland is also home to one of the most terrifying haunted houses in the United States. Here’s a guide to amusement parks in Maryland.
1. Six Flags America, Maryland
You know what you’re getting with any Six Flags in the US, and that is wild roller coasters and adrenaline-pumping fun for all. Six Flags in Maryland is home to extreme rides, such as the Firebird Floorless Coaster which goes at a speed of 56 mph with rider’s feet dangling onto the tracks below. It’s not for the faint-hearted! Other top rollercoasters include the Superman: Ride of Steel which has an epic 20-story drop and goes up to 5,400 feet; the Voodoo Drop which has a 140-foot free fall plummet at 56 mph; and the Mind Eraser, which is home to tons of thrilling curves and twists. For younger children, there’s kiddie rides, carousels, a Ferris wheel, trains, and fun themed rides. The park also hosts themed events, at Halloween, Christmas and other times of the year and it’s guaranteed fun-for-all!
2. Adventure Park USA
If you want to take a trip back in time to the Wild West but don’t own a time machine, head to Adventure Park USA which is a Wild West-themed amusement park. It’s the largest family entertainment destination in Maryland and it’s home to everything from mini golf course through to go-kart trails, lake bumper boats, laser tag, rock climbing walls, themed playgrounds, high ropes courses, and arcades. There’s so much to do here you could easily spend two to three days enjoying yourself. The park is also home to several super fun roller coasters for those of you looking to get your adrenaline pumping. It’s a great park to visit come rain or shine thanks to its plethora of indoor activities.
3. Baja Amusements
Baja Amusements is an awesome amusement park spread over ten acres of land. It’s packed with family-friendly activities with the highlight being its eight tracks for go-karts. When you want a break from go-karting around the park, you can try your hand at a 19-hole miniature golf course, flex your muscles on one of the park’s climbing walls, or take the kids on low-impact rides. If you’re looking for a bargain, you can buy the park’s Two-Hour Wristband, which includes one round of mini golf and access to some of the rides.
4. Jolly Roger Amusement Park
Jolly Roger Amusement Park offers something for every kind of amusement park lover. There are two main locations, the first on 30th Street, which is an eclectic, carnival-themed park home to tons of fun rides, roller coasters, a large Ferris wheel, and activities such as go-karting and mini golf. It’s also home to a free circus that takes place twice daily and an antique train dating back to the 1950s. Its second destination is the wild Splash Mountain Water Park, home to 16 exciting slides and themed pools. It’s an amazing place to cool off in the summer months. Kick back in the lazy river, relax by the pool, and eat food at one of the park’s many restaurant options.
5. Trimper’s Rides
Trimper’s Rides is located at Maryland’s boardwalk. It’s a historic amusement park with a vintage theme and it’s home to tons of rides, with many geared for younger children. The park was first founded in the late 19th century and has been offering fun for over 100 years. It’s also home to an exciting Haunted House, a shooting gallery, and bumper cars. As for its vintage rides, the park is home to a large collection of old-school rides and a 1912 Herschell-Spillman carousel with traditional carousel animals such as horses, zebras, and dragons.
6. Chesapeake Beach Water Park
For another chance to cool off, head to Chesapeake Beach Water Park. It’s a family-friendly water park home to several pools, waterfalls, and slides. If you want to truly relax, why not rent one of the park’s private cabana rentals. If not, bring your own chair as the park gets packed and they can’t guarantee chairs for all. The park also offers organized birthday parties, swimming lessons, themed days, alongside other special events.
7. Ocean City Pier and Jolly Roger
Another Jolly Roger admission to the list is the Jolly Roger rides at Maryland’s famous Ocean City Pier. The Pier is filled with bright flashing lights, vintage rides, a two-level carousel, and a large Ferris wheel. Grab some candy floss and enjoy the atmosphere.
8. Frontier Town
For the ultimate camping and waterpark experience, take a trip to Frontier Town. It’s home to a water park, mini golf, and an awesome Western-themed amusement park with rides that the whole family will enjoy. Frontier Town is a popular campground in summer months, with nearly 600 spacious campsite spots catering from basic tents through to deluxe rental trailers, and cozy camping cabins. When it’s time to refuel there’s an onsite restaurant and bar, deli, and ice cream parlor. Frontier Town is also home to its own marina, and you can bring your boat and dock it at the marina, alongside go fishing or crabbing.
9. Field of Screams
If normal rollercoasters aren’t adrenaline-pumping enough for you, what about a terrifying experience at Maryland’s Field of Screams? It’s home to one of the freakiest haunted houses in the US alongside a trail of terror that will have you jumping out of your skin. There’s also the gruesome slaughter factory which few can handle. The park hosts regular bonfires, Halloween events, and tons of delicious food including S’Mores, fried Twinkies, and funnel cakes. If you like creepy amusement parks, Field of Screams if the place for you.
