Orlando is one of the most exciting destinations in Florida. Not only is it home to some of the best theme parks in the world, but it’s also home to tons of fun family events that take place throughout the year. We’ve rounded up the best family events in Orlando — plus where you should stay. From traditional Scottish games that will have you and your family thinking that you’re in Scotland’s Highlands, through to kid-friendly food festivals, and spooky Halloween evenings, here are the best events in Orlando:
Immerse the kids in a cultural day at the Central Florida Scottish Games. You don’t have to come wearing a kilt (although it’s encouraged) and you can take part in family-friendly games including Viking-inspired ax throwing, highland country dancing, sheep herding, and much more. It’s guaranteed family fun for all.
Pet lovers from all over Florida gather at Lake Eola to support Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, which is an organization that looks to shelter, rehome, and heal pets. The event includes a walk around the scenic Lake Eola — pets, and their owners, are welcome!
If your kids are already showing signs of being serious foodies at a young age, why not bring them to SeaWorld Seven Seas Food Festival? The event is home to food, drink, music concerts, and entertainment that all of the family will love. Entry to the festival is included with regular admission to SeaWorld Orlando — great for travelers on a budget in Orlando. There are plenty of kid-friendly food options, including foods from different cultures alongside traditional American fare.
The Mardi Gras parades at Universal Orlando is one of the most exciting annual events in Orlando. There are evening parades that include street performances, outrageous costumes, bright colors, and music from traditional New Orleans bands — plus you can fill up on tasty Cajun street food.
Did you know that blueberries are one of Florida’s top fruit exports? Why not celebrate all things ‘blue’ at the Florida Blueberry Festival? Blueberries usually ripen from April through to August. Farms all over the Orlando area open their doors to locals and travelers who are looking to do a spot of blueberry picking, so start thinking of all the delicious baked goods you can make! The best place to head is the Formosa Gardens Event Center where entry is free.
Wherever you are in the United States, the 4th of July is always an exciting experience. Be sure to check out the fireworks at the fountain in Lake Eola Park in Orlando. It’s a spectacular display and there are food trucks in the park to keep you well fed throughout the evening display.
If your kids are a bit older and can handle a spooky Halloween experience, be sure to visit Orlando Studios Halloween Horror Night, which runs from September to November. Expect everything from grizzly-looking food, through to adrenaline-pumping pranks, haunted houses, and creepy mazes.
Is there anything better to get you in the mood for Christmas than seeing an enormous Christmas tree being lit up? Take the family to the Lake Eola Park for the official City of Orlando Tree Lighting Ceremony.
