2018 saw the notorious Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival celebrate its 11th anniversary. And with previous headliners like The Who and Lorde, Outside Lands is sure to live up to its reputation and more.
This festival is all about the mainstream music acts, but Outside Lands never misses the opportunity to share its eco-friendly agenda with attendees by encouraging the use of public transport and partnering with local non-profits.
Whether you’re into music, arts, the environment or all three, Outside Lands in SF is where you want to be this year.
Outside Lands takes place in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Dates for 2019 are yet to be announced.
Outside Lands never fails to impress with their lineup, and their 10th Anniversary festival falls in line with tradition.
2019 headliners haven’t been confirmed but past bands have included: Metallica, The Who, Gorillaz, Lorde, A Tribe Called Quest, Alt-J, Queens of the Stone Age, Solange, Tove Lo, Schoolboy Q and so many more legendary artists.
Outside Lands keeps it simple with two ticketing options: General Admission and VIP. Both options give you access to the festival grounds and all performances. However, VIP amission includes exclusive viewing areas, restrooms facilities, bars, lounge, and shaded seating.
3-day General Admission – $375
3-day VIP Admission* – $795

Parking at the festival grounds is limited and driving in SF is a nightmare. To get to Outside Lands, you’re best off taking public transportation or using the official Outside Lands shuttle. (https://www.riverbendresort.us)
Take BART to Civic Center Station SF → Walk 0.3 miles (6 minutes) to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium → Catch the Outside Lands Shuttle to Golden Gate Park.
Tip: Other public Bay Area transportation options include Caltrain, AC Transit and Muni if you happen to be coming from other areas.
If you prefer to drive, you can purchase a 3-day Parking Pass for $255.
Everyone knows it: San Francisco is one of the most–if not the most–expensive cities in the U.S. This means hotels too. The surge pricing and availability will be a problem for a festival that expects 70,000 people in attendance.
Since public transportation is easily accessible to and from San Francisco, you may want to save some money and stay across the bridge in popular cities like Oakland, Berkeley or Emeryville.
By expanding your search to the entire Bay Area, you can find bargains like this apartment that sleeps up to 7 people for just $100/night.
In Oakland, hotels convenient to public transportation start around $200/night, but Airbnbs can be as low as $46/night, like this spacious, well-lit bedroom in a Piedmont home.

2. Leave your alcohol at home – it’s not allowed
3. Bring a blanket so you can sprawl out on the lawn
4. Don’t skip Choco Lands, which gives you a taste of everything that is great about SF cuisine
5. Bring a backup phone charger, but if you forget, stop by the AT&T-sponsored charging station
6. Mark Twain famously said that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. It’s no joke; San Francisco weather can be unexpectedly rainy and cold in August, so wear layers for warmth. (Note: umbrellas aren’t allowed)
Located in Hellman Hollow next to the Panhandle Stage, Eco Lands’ mission is to partner with local non-profits to build a better and more healthy San Francisco. It does this in three ways: Greening Programs that focus on sustainability, Waste Diversion that promotes the use of compost and recycling to properly dispose of waste and Non-Profit Partners that focus on the arts, the community and the environment.
Find out more about how you can be apart of this eco-conscious initiative. Do your part to keep this world and our community safe, clean and healthy.
