Your Guide to 48 Hours in San Francisco

← Back to ‘Discover the Best Things to Do, Everywhere’

Just two days in San Francisco may not be enough, but we’re here to help you maximize your time in the city. This 48-hour itinerarySan Francisco will help you navigate the city and find the best attractions, restaurants, nightclubs, and places to rest your head when all the sightseeing catches up to you.

Day 1

9:00 a.m. Start the day with a California Omelette at Mama’s in North Beach

An omelet with avocado, bacon and Monterey Jack cheese is the way to get your SF adventure going. Located across from Washington Park on Stockton, Mama’s offers great traditional breakfast options and puts you in a great location to start the day.

10:00 a.m. Climb Telegraph Hill and catch the views from Coit Tower

The views from the historic tower are some of the best in the city. Make sure you save some time for the murals inside the tower.

12:00 p.m. Explore Fisherman’s Wharf

Explore the old fishing docks, watch the street performers and take in the excellent views of the Bay Bridge and Alcatraz. Stop at the Franciscan Crab Restaurant for some Dungeness crab. Also, be sure to check out the Sea Lions that congregate by Pier 39.

2:30 p.m. Catch a boat to Alcatraz

Boats run back and forth to the former prison and visitors can go on guided or audio tours of the island and its cell blocks. You can even stand in the cells where infamous criminals passed their days.

6:00 p.m. Eat at the Italian Homemade Company

Just a 15-minute walk from Fisherman’s Wharf, here you can enjoy some of the city’s best Italian food. The pasta is homemade and won’t soon be forgotten.

9:00 p.m. Start the night with drinks at Rusted Mule

Located in Polk Gulch just a few blocks from Union Square, Rusted Mule is a new chic cocktail bar that’s quickly making a name for itself as one of the hottest spots in the city. With a large bar, three lounges and a mezzanine for private parties, you’ll have plenty of space to explore and mingle with other parties.

11:00 p.m. Hit the dance floor (or maybe the VIP) at Infusion

This underground (literally) club is a great option if you’re looking to dance. We recommend following them on Instagram for information on what type of music is played on which night. You might even catch a promotion for bottle service.

2:00 a.m. Head back to your SoMa loft and rest up

This SoMa loft sleeps four and the rooftop area offers excellent views of the city.

Day 2

10:00 a.m. Get brunch at Brenda’s French Soul Food

Beignets, shrimp and grits, buttermilk pancakes – the variety of flavor at Brenda’s is unmatched. A nice walk is a good way to get the day started and Brenda’s is just a few blocks from the loft. Order lunch to go.

12:00 p.m. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge and Hike the Marin Headlands

Depending on your budget, you can Uber or take a Muni bus to the south end of the bridge.  For the bus, you have to catch the 30-Stockton to Broderick on Stockton and Sutter which is about a 20-minute walk from Brenda’s. Upon arrival, walk across the bridge and pick a hiking trail on the other side. Some of the trails are pretty steep so be ready for a workout. Don’t worry though–the views down on the bridge and over the of the entire Bay Area are incredible. Once you’re at the top, unpack your lunch from Brenda’s and enjoy the view. (Adipex)

5:00 p.m. Grab Mexican food on the way back

Take Route 1 back down south and stop at Nopalito in the Inner Sunset neighborhood for some of the best Mexican food in the city.

6:30 p.m. Catch the sunset at Ocean Beach

Make the dinner stop quick so you can watch the sunset over the Pacific at Ocean Beach.

9:00 p.m. Twin Peaks

These hills in the middle of SF offer quite possibly the best night views of the Bay Area and are the perfect way to wrap up your 48 hours in The City.
