Thailand is one of the best beach holiday destinations in the world. It’s known for its paradise-like islands, emerald green waters and relaxed way of life. Thailand has hundreds of tropical islands for you to choose from alongside hundreds of stunning beaches. We’re here to help so we’ve rounded up the six top beaches in Thailand, so you can kick back with a fresh coconut and catch some rays. Here are the best beaches in Thailand:
First stop is the island of Ko Tao, which is a popular pick for backpackers. Sairee Beach is a stunning bay, with one mile of golden sands and perfect, turquoise waters. There are long boats bobbing in the sea, vendors selling fresh coconuts and crystal clear waters to float in. Ko Tao is known as one of the top diving spots in Thailand, with stunning coral reefs and tons of tropical fish. Be sure to bring your snorkel.
If you’re a Leonardo Dicaprio fan, you’ll probably have already seen Maya Bay in one of his films, The Beach. While Maya Bay can get crowded at peak hours (normally during 11 am – 3 pm), it’s scenery is jaw-dropping, with perfectly turquoise water surrounded by large limestone cliffs. Maya Bay is a short boat ride from the island of Ko Phi Phi, which is located in southwestern Thailand. Some day trips to the Maya Bay will take you to nearby deserted limestone coves where you can swim or snorkel in paradise.
Ko Nang Yuan is a tiny island that’s a short boat trip away from Ko Tao. It’s one Thailand’s most ‘Instagrammable locations’, as it’s made up of two archipelagos connected by a sand strip. Climb to the top of the mountain for stunning views of the double bay. Be sure to do the climb out of the midday sun. The beach has crystal clear waters that are great for snorkeling. If you forget to bring a snorkel, you can rent them from most hotels or hostels.
Haad Rin is a paradise beach by day and an insane party destination by night. The beach, which is on the island of Ko Phangan, is home to Thailand’s famous Full Moon Party, which happens once a month during the full moon. The party draws thousands of people each month and is packed with huge sound systems, buckets of cheap booze and ravers with glow sticks. The beach is surprisingly relaxed during the day and it’s a great place to sleep off a hangover.
Railay Beach in Krabi is known as one of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches. The bay is surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs and the sand is perfectly golden. To get to Railay Beach you have to encounter a choppy boat ride, but trust us, it’s worth it. Considering how stunning the beach is, it’s rather peaceful and not too touristy.
Lamai Beach is located on the island of Ko Samui, which has daily direct flights to and from Bangkok. The beach is one of the best on the island and it’s known for its chilled atmosphere and amazing sunset. It’s full of restaurants selling fish ready for the barbecue and delicious tropical cocktails.
