Dallas is one of the best places to visit in Texas. It’s packed with museums, a cool arts district, and leafy parks. It’s also known for its vibrant street food culture, so you can expect a vacation filled with delicious foods. From the best places in the city to snap an Instagram shot, through to the top museums and galleries, here are the top ten things to do in Dallas:
Can you think of a better way to start your trip in Dallas than with a stunning view of the city? Head 561 feet high to the observation deck at Reunion Tower for a bird’s eye view of the city. You’ll be greeted by a 360-degree view of Dallas and there are two restaurants in the building where you can grab a bite to eat.
The views of Dallas from Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge are beautiful and you’ll be wanting to capture the perfect Instagram shot or selfie. Head to the bridge for sunset and bring your phone or camera fully charged.
To get in with Dallas’ hip crowd, take a trip downtown to the Dallas Museum of Art. It’s one of the largest art museums in the United States and features an incredible collection of over twenty thousand objects, dating from the third millennium BC through to the present day. General admission is free and you can roam the galleries at a leisurely pace. You can also pay to see the museum’s latest exhibitions. The museum is located in the uber-cool arts district, a great spot for people watching once you’ve finished exploring the museum.
The Dallas Holocaust Museum offers a sobering look at one of the most horrific events of the 20th century. The museum is informative and you can learn about the Holocaust as told by its survivors. It’s a chilling exhibition and something you won’t forget any time soon.
If you’ve got a spare afternoon, take a trip to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanic Gardens which features beautiful flower displays, tropical plants and art exhibits. You can stroll the gardens and sit amongst the beautiful flowers with a picnic.
Many people know Dallas as the place where President John F Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. If you want to indulge in some conspiracy theories and see the location where the former President was shot, you can head to Dealey Plaza. Walk around the plaza and visit the Sixth Floor Museum to find out more information about JFK’s assassination and see the sniper’s nest.
The Dallas World Aquarium features a fabulous display of sea life and animals. In the aquarium, you’ll find a replica tropical rainforest, complete with sloths and tropical birds, through to underwater tanks with jellyfish, Japanese crabs, and seadragons.
Head downtown to the Dallas Arts District for some of the city’s best street food. Here you’ll find street food trucks that range from delicious Louisiana sandwiches at Rockn’ Ricks, to authentic Greek gyros at the Little Greek and moreish brownie bites at Vegan Nom’s. There’s something for everyone!
Klyde Warren Park is an urban park with food trucks, music and arts events. It’s a nice place to sit and grab lunch while watching the world go by. There’s a daily free program of activities, ranging from yoga through to exercise classes and music workshops
For adrenaline junkies, Six Flags over Texas is the place for you. The theme park features over fifty rides, from stomach-churning rollercoasters through to fun carousels for the kids. It makes a great day trip for the whole group when staying in Dallas.
