The Middle East is one of the most interesting places in the world to travel. From the world’s most ancient archaeological sites, through to bustling markets, and delicious foods bursting with incredible flavors, it’s an adventure you’ll never forget. Here’s our selection of some of the best places to travel in the Middle East to travel to, from the ancient rock city of Petra in Jordan through to the epic Egyptian pyramids:

Jordan

Jordan is one of the top destinations in the Middle East to travel to thanks to its recent safety record and its incredible array of sights and places to visit. When in Jordan, top things to do include exploring the dramatic Wadi Rum desert, which was the setting for the film Lawrence of Arabia; the breathtaking, ancient city of Petra, which is a city that was cut into rocks from 300 BCE; and the impressive Mount Nebo, which is a mountain offering panoramic views of the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley.

Morocco 

Morocco is a country known for its beautiful Mosques, bustling bazaar markets, and delicious food. It’s a popular country to travel to thanks to its good tourism infrastructure and dazzling sights. When in Morocco, visit the ornate Hassam II Mosque, which is known for its towering minaret; the exotic Majorelle gardens, home to rare plant species; and the impressive Bahia Palace. An absolute must-visit is the ancient city of Marrakech, which is home to maze-like, historic alleys and a walled Old City dating back over one thousand years. Other top activities include hiking in the stunning Atlas Mountains and eating the country’s world-famous tagine.

Egypt

Egypt is one of the oldest countries in the world and with thousands of years of history, it’s home to some of the most important archaeological sites on the planet. Egypt’s pyramids are considered one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. They are certainly some of the most marvelous and mysterious structures in the world, with many dating back as far as 4,000 years. From soaring pyramids through to intricate hieroglyphics and temples, you won’t be short of history to explore. The country is also home to the famous River Nile, wonderful beaches, and the bustling city of Cairo.

Jerusalem

Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world and considered to be the holiest city in the religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, causing centuries of rivalry. While there is conflict over the territory of Jerusalem, it’s still a fantastic destination to travel in the Middle East. The City of David in Jerusalem dates back as far as the 4th millennium BCE and it’s a destination bursting with thousands of years of history. While in Jerusalem, visit the West Wall, which is an ancient site of Jewish pilgrimage; the winding streets of the Old City; and Temple Mount, which is home to various religious sites. While in town, be sure to indulge in artichokes, hummus, and falafel.
